Are you comfortable in your own skin?

Original post by nrvbrd

The re ocurring post on BHB about guest/no guest made me think of this.

Do you like to do things/go places alone or would you rather have someone with you all the time.

Here are things I have done alone and still do periodically

1. Gone to the movies
2. I go to Houstons once a week by myself and sit at the bar and eat spinach dip
3. Gone to a wedding without a date once
4. Eaten in a restaurant
5. Sit at the Barnes & Nobles Cafe with a snack and a magazine

I love my own company at times.

What have you guys done alone?

Re: Are you comfortable in your own skin?

We both like to do things alone (independant) from one another, but lately I've noticed he is more clingy than me.

When I owned my Jetski, I used to take off all weekend by myself. He didn't like to ride 2 at a time and wasn't a big fan of the water, but I loved being alone. I never felt so free from the world as I did when I was riding around, exploring the South Shore of Long Island with the sun hitting my face, or stopping at Gilgo Beach Inn for a chicken tender sandwich and a soda...

I can do just about anything alone. Roller Skating, shopping, the beach, pool, parks, concerts, shows, dancing, etc.

The only thing I haven't tried on my own was taking a trip (well, to my girlfriends in Ohio, but I flew). It sort of bends me out of shape when he takes off for his friend's cabin without me, but oh well.

Love my alone time. It is empowering. I love being independent.

I like going for walks in my neighborhood alone, go to lunch alone (a lot - not many lunch buddies at work), love browsing stores alone. When I lived in the city, I loved walking to Central Park or the little local park by my apartment and sitting in the grass and reading, sun-bathing or just people watching by myself. I can only shop alone (when I go with people I come home with nothing). I have gone to weddings and parties alone with-no problem. I have never done a vacation or movies alone (although I hardly go to the movies in general).

The best thing was living on my own - no roommate. I did that for a little over a year. I never thought I would be able to (I get chicken to sleep in a house by myself) but it was great. I loved everything being mine and only mine. It made me stronger.

This is a great thread!
I love to do things on my own. My fav. is to go to the beach.
I shop alone, eat alone, work out alone... I love my own company. I lived alone for 2 years- loved every min.
FH is the complete opposite. He can't do anything by himself! He's jealous of me b.c I can. Says that is one of the reasons he loves me so much, 'case i'm independent.

Re: Are you comfortable in your own skin?

FH and I live VERY comfortable together, we like spending time together, and space is almost never an issue.

However, I LOVE shopping alone. Not to say that I don't like going with FH or one of my GF, but I just like doing it alone.
The bookstore thing, definitely love that, too.

One thing that I really need time for at home, is trying on clothes. I have no problem being naked in front of FH, but when I am trying to pick out an outfit, or see if something fits (a lot doesn't lately) I hate when he is there.

Also, as much as I hate my commute, the afternoon drive home is nice... I get that 45 minutes to wind down from the day, go over any issues in my head, resolve them if I can, and forget it till the next day, that way I don't have to worry about it at home.

Re: Are you comfortable in your own skin?

I'm very comfortable being in my own skin. I love who I am and don't mind doing things alone. I'm an only child, I guess I didn't really have a choice sometimes either. Love shopping and browsing and walking in the city..... love people watching.

FH is also an only child, so we understand the need to have some alone time w/ yourself to do your own thing. We're going to start a hobby together- bike riding, but will always make time to do stuff on our own too.

We have to clothes shop alone-we don't have the patience to go together, we end up argueing about something. I food shop alone. I enjoy going for a drive alone at night to get a cup of coffee. I also like getting ready to go out alone, I don't like to feel rushed or watched when I'm doing my hair, makeup.

Re: Are you comfortable in your own skin?

I was on the treadmill the other day thinking 'this may be the only time today I have to myself,' between the office, the bus to and fro work, FH at home...and I thought 'I'd better make the most of this.' so then as I run, I set to work thinking through all my stressful issues, things on my to-do list, things I need to food shop for...and sometimes I just let my mind wander and watch people out the window and wonder who they are and what they are doing....

I have never been as stress free as I am when I run on a steady schedule.

FH and I both love our alone time. We try to work it out so that we each have alone time as often as we can. I really don’t do movies alone and lunch is mostly eaten at my desk but one of my most favorite things to do is after cleaning the apartment, I like to light smelly candles and then sit and watch a movie or read a book. It’s just so peaceful. Having grown up in the city I often window shop and walk around alone. Shopping and movies are always done with FH or my best friend. She and I do everything together. I can only be alone for so long. lol

I love to shop on my own and do my Saturday errands by myself like get my manicure/pedicure, go to the bank, cleaners, etc.
