come with you when you went for ur 1st fitting?? my FMIL found out that my dress is in and wants to come to see it but i dont want her to cause one she had nothing nice to say about my dress when i showed her a pic in her words' is that your dress?? thats not very tradtional! are u show thats the one?' and if u read my post before my mother doesnt like her much. i want to do the right thing and have her come but im scared to death there might be a problem! HELP ME PLEASE!!!
My words exactly. This is your day! Its such a wonderful experience and you dont need the stress of the negativity. You need a clear head when you are making the decisions needed to be made at a fitting. Besides she has all day the day of your wedding to see your dress!

tell her ok, you can come. this is the date. then schedule the fitting BEFORE that date, and say the shop called you suddenly and said the seamstress will be out or something on your date, and that you only had a few min. to make the decision to go, and your mom was availabe. then after the 1st fitting, say 'oh wow, last nite, i had my fitting, and this is what happened' and repeat story above.
sounds like something I would do. I'm a great liar.

if you dont want her to be there, dont have her! Just say politely that you want it to be a surprise and that you dont want anyone to see it...
good luck

That's a good idea... I get along very well with my FMIL, but sometimes she takes over a little too much. She was there when I found my dress, but I want to do some things alone with my mom. You gotta remember ladies... we're the brides. My mother lives in Jersey and FMIL lives 5 minutes down the road. I wish my mom lived closer

honestly i didn't even think to invite FMIL dress shopping with me, and I won't be asking her to the fittings. those are special things I did with my mom alone, as mother/daughter time. FMIL can see the dress on the big day, like everyone else. I don't think its rude, most girls I know didn't bring FMIL to those type of appmts.

Yes, I will ask her to come with me...ALong with my mom and my dad(hes a dadzilla lol)...MOH and thats all for now, i don't want to go in with a whole crew
Hell no! I wouldn't ask your FMIL to go. You should just tell her that you don't want anyone to see the dress before you walk down the isle. If she gives you a problem just tell her that you think it's bad luck. A pic is one thing but to see it in person is another.
OR.. you can find out what date she's not available and then plan to have your fitting that day. Ask FH to find out when her next Dr.s appt is or have FH tell FMIL that he want's to share some alone time with his mom b4 he gets married and he can take her to lunch. Then go get fitted.
I have tons more on how to ditch FMIL!!

my fmil was there when i went shopping for the dress and she saw the one i chose, so i think to keep it simple i may just take my mom when i start my fittings.

yes i am letting my FMIL come if she wants. But IMO after what ur FMIL said about ur dress and what she on xmas eve i wouldn't want her there. its supposed to be a happy time, and it seems like thats something she just can't be. My mom is fine with my FMIL coming.

I see nothing wrong with inviting her if you have a good relationship with one another.

Unfortunately, i don't have a FMIL...
but in your case, since your mother is not crazy about her, i would say DON'T bring her. it should be a special moment for you and your mom... your mom, if she's like mine, will be so excited and happy and will want to be there for you for your fittings. also, it sounds like FMIL will make comments you won't want to hear, so i say leave her at home. if anything, take some digital pics and show her at a later time if you feel you need to include her....

My FMIL and I too have a great relationship. I'm hoping she will come to my first fitting. Before I had gone for dresses she had asked if she can come with us to look, but I wanted to at least go with my mom alone once so i was sort of surprised she asked. I think she may have gotten insulted because I kept asking her after that and she said no she wouldn't go. When my dress comes in, i'm going to tell her i would love for her to come and see it.
If you're not comfortable with her going to your first fitting, then don't ask her. It's totally up to you.

Well originally I did not want my FMIL to see my dress ~ I did not want anyone to see my dress actually ~ I wanted it to be a surprise... but I gave it (which was great because she was so happy and wanted to be involved she felt apart of it) she came with me and my girls when we did BM dresses so I tried it on for her as a surprise...
anyhow...the only person that will come to my first fitting will be my mom. Everyone will have to wait until the BIG day...
If you would rather her not go ~ you could play it off as you would like it to be a surprise on your wedding day ~ even though she saw a picture she did not see it on you... and dresses look different on the body then in a picture (in my opinion) good luck!

I took my MIL because she was b*tching that she wasn't asked and I was trying to keep the peace because she was giving DH a really hard time. She didn't deserve to go but in the interest of helping him, I invited her.
You shouldn't feel obligated to do anything. If you don't want your FMIL there, don't invite her...especially if she made the comment she did. Not cool IMO.

I will not be asking my MIL to come with me to my first fitting. Personally, I think that is something that you should share with your mom. Since she doesn't have anything nice to say to begin with, save yourself the grief and don't involve her.
