This is so fustrating, I want to respond, please tell me the last time you planned a long island wedding. We're geting married in June of 2008, last Sept/ Oct. (2006) when I was calling places to look for RH, 2 places were booked , When I saidm the date both BM's made a comment about having SOOO much time, but they were both wrong! It's wise to plan in advance to ensure you get what you want.
My personal favorite (We're now at the point of sending stds), Why are you sending them soo far in advance ? ( I'm planning on sending them 1 year in advance) So people mark it on their calenders & don't make any other plans for that day...
It's so fustrating, I know, but focus on the positive your going to have the place & vendors you want!!

I hate it also 1/2/2009 is only the 2nd day into 2009 people sometimes think the end of 09. I always have to hear the oh so far away........when it's not. 1 year and 7 months unitl the big day.

Sorry for chrasing. It was the same thing with us 08 brides. I got enged in 06 and started planning mid summer and thats all I herd. But it's better to get the big stuff outta the way.

I GET THE SAME THING FROM SOME OF MY VENDORS AND MY FRIENDS. I LIKE TO PLAN EARLY TO MAKE SURE I GET EVERYONE I WANT AT MY WEDDING. IT USED TO BOTHER ME BUT I LEARNED TO GET OVER IT .PLUS IT IS EXPENSIVE TO GET MARRIED NOW WE HAVE TO SAVE MONEY.

crasher here. I'm getting married in 08 and I get those responses too, don't let it get to you. Think of all the trouble you're saving yourselves of being able to book probably any vendor and not worrying about your date being taken.

another crasher...FH and I got engaged in November 2005 and we are getting married this December- 2 years from the engagement and we heard that from a ton of that from vendors-you have so much time-- it turned me off, so I didn't book with them. One DJ that I called to set up an appointment last August said I had a ton of time, so I said that I would no longer need his services, and hung up.
We needed to save money as well- people need to realize that everyone's circumstances are different.

yeah i get that all the time too. i just think to myself, if they would lower their prices then maybe i can get married in a year instead of 2. I make around 40,000 adn my FH makes like 25,000 and for a 60,000 plus wedding, there's no way. and by booking it 2 years in advance ur guaranteed to get everything u want, sometimes even for the 2007 price instead of '09 and you can make more payments.

HAHAH judging by the responses we all relate to this. I got engaged in June 06' and started planning a wedding for March 09'. I booked my reception hall in November 06' and people were like so soon? I told them that people were already booking into 2010. Ignore people and their comments, they do not think. Other people thought it was silly that we got engaged last year and we are waiting so long but it's all about money and being able to be stable on our own. The wedding in itself is a lot of money plus you need money to actually to live. People just do not think!

I haven't really found that although i only booked my hall and church so far. BUT I won't let anyone get me upset b/c it's mine and fh's day and we want to make sure we get everything we want. Just ignore those ppl and enjoy yourself.

crashing!! i too gave myself a two year engagement and trust me it goes really quick!! im almost at my year mark..ignore what everyone else says! I actually still have been hearing the 'its too early comments' about booking the rest of my vendors and buying a dress and have only about a year to go..it comes sooner than you think,,and its smart to book early..save the stress and get good prices!

Don't worry about what others say. Your day will come faster than you can imagine! We got engaged in 05 and left a lot of our planning for the end and I regretted that because I felt rushed with some things.
Enjoy your engagement and plan what you can plan right now.......in the end, you'll be happy! Just don't let other people's comments bother you

we got engaged almost a year ago, so i was in the same position...and it was sooooo annoying. one of the sales women at RK bridal gave me MAJOR attitude for being a 2008 bride, told me that i could not try on as many dresses as the 2007 brides, and was extremely rude to me the entire time she was 'helping' me. my SIL got in a fight with her and i was really annoyed. it kind of turned me off to the whole planning thing for a little while...
but don't let that happen to you...if you want to plan now, you have every right to. that way you will get the vendors you want...it's not silly to plan so far in advance, it's smart. so don't let people get to you. i find that the people who have negative things to say either have never been married, or were married a million years ago and have no idea what a wedding costs these days.
so happy planning...no matter what!!

i agree w/ the above post..the people who keep saying 'so far away' are either SINGLE girls or have been married for MANY years. Well #1 times have changed and things are expensive unless these people want to pay for my wedding and buy an appt. for us LOL..and #2 the people who are not married will find out when they try to plan a wedding. One thing i know is my FH and i will be stable and have a well thought out and beautiful wedding and Marriage. I know im marrying him so what's the rush?? Everyone has they're reasons and I really wish some people will mind their own business! Sorry had to vent just a little
