that when you speak to different vendors (not all but most) or friends and you tell them that you are getting married in 2009 - they respond with, 'wow you have so much time' or 'wow your starting early' or 'omg that is so far away'? It is starting to annoy me !!!! I feel like saying, sorry but I am not fortunate to have a ton of money to pay for a wedding anytime soon. On top of that, is it so wrong that I want to start planning early so that I can ensure that my preferred vendors are available on my wedding date? I thought it was becoming more and more common for brides to have longer engagements nowadays. URGGG, I'm sorry I just had to vent because it is now making me and FH question whether or not we are waiting too long !

I get the same thing! Well to bad for them! I'm so tired of hearing WOW 2009 it's almost the middle of 2007 already people leave us alone. It makes me so angry esp when it comes from friends. I've had the hall booked since late 2006 and 2 months ago booked the church - esp because the church only does 1 wedding on Fridays! I totally agree w/you and feel the same way. I'm waiting to really put a list of vendors together the end of this year and then book them next year in the beginning of 2008. And your better off booking early because you'll be locked into a cheaper price! So ha-ha to everyone else!

I get it soooooooo much from family. They are like 2009??? WOW you have over 2 years??? My grandma acts like she may not even be around by then, and she's perfectly healthy lol.
And then they all say 'well when we decided to get married we couldnt wait to have our wedding. When you really love someone you want to just marry them as soon as you can.' Then I say how expensive it is and they say well do it at a VFW Hall then!!!
UUURrrggg all I can say is I couldnt wait for March 15th because then I am like 'its less than 2 years away' LOL

I feel your pain too I'm doing a destination wedding and I just want to book everything already. I have it all figured out hotel, ceremony/reception location, wedding coordinator, and photographer and I can't do anything about it. I'm stuck in this limbo stage I wish I could just book my date already and make it official so I can start shopping for goodies. They will not book anything this far in advance. Hotel prices probably won't even be out until next year. My coordinator said that I can't book with her until December. Grrrr!

It really is rediculous !! WE'RE BRIDES TOO !!! It doesn't matter how far away the wedding is ! Well, what makes me feel better is knowing that my sister-in-law married my brother in Sept. but was engaged for 21/2 yrs as well--IT FLEW BY !! So soon all the vendors are going to be begging for our bookings !!! And, you'll start hearing friends and family say 'wow, I can't believe how fast 2 yrs went by' !
At least we have our '09 board so that we can share our ideas and issues with brides in the same boat !

Sorry for crashing, but I honestly think it's a valid question. I know its annoying but its expected. the same happened to me as well....but now when they ask me when im getting married, i just say 'Oh june 2008 - I know i have time.' so i say before they can. hahaha.

Of course it is a valid question that's not what I'm saying. Vendors need to know your date obviously. I am talking about people sharing their negative opinions about having a long engagement as well as why I have begun to book vendors so far in advance. Simply, it is because I want to...I just feel like I should't have to explain it or justify why I have decided to have an 09 wedding. But like you said, I too have begun to say - ' I know it's far away' before they even have a chance to get it out !!!

THANK YOU! It's so nice when people see what you mean. I mean GOD I'm tired of hearing well if you always wait for money to be there you'll never do anything in life. Like BUG OFF! I work for investment bankers in mergers & acquisitions and this girl who in a analyst / banker was like 'aren't you getting married this month?' MIND U SHE NEVER SPEAKS TO ME ON A NORMAL BASIS. I'm like 'no 2009' and just as I'm saying 'yea plenty of time' she goes 'OH MY GOD!' and made a face. I'm like GO AWAY!!!!!!!
AND BANKERS MAKE MUCH MORE THAN THEIR ASSISTANTS!
Some people are nice about it and others make you feel like your doing something wrong.

Ugh, I feel your pain!! I love when people have an entire conversation with you about how far away 2009 is and they dont understand why we are waiting so long

THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH FOR STARTING this Thread!!!!! I have been feeling that way lately. Even my mother, who says she is excited about the wedding, but when ever I start talking about the wedding she is like, oh its so far away, you have time, your planning so early. And always makes a point to tell me that when ever she tells her friends her daughter is engaged and she tells them when she's getting married they like WOW WHY SO FAR!!! Same with Vendors!!! I hate that so much!!! URRRRR

Sometimes people can be so insensitive about the way they say things. I have gotten the same response from some vendors. But, I have some positive vendors that say 'It's definitely alright to plan early'. I don't have money at my disposable and besides you want to make sure you are satisfied with the choices you make. Ignore the ones that complain about your early planning. Besides, you have 'us' girls to talk to about your wedding.

I have to say - all my vendors have been WONDERFUL so far- it's been more my fam. & friends - and i was shocked at them! butI always just smile and say something like well I want this to be as stress free as possible, so im giving my self plenty of time - which is the truth! then i just shrug their ignorant comment off - Dont let anyone make you feel badly!

Oh my gosh so happy someone started this....the only one that has a really big problem is FMIL...I hear her on the phone and she says...'she' decided to wait to so long so 'she' isn't rushed, I think they should have had it sooner......grrrrrrr
I do get people saying it's so far away....and then it get's so discouraging because then I feel like it's going to taking foreverrrrrrrrrrr to get here.
Any then my Grandma keep telling me that she isn't going to be around for it, I get so upset and the grandma asks can't you make it sooner for me - so I tell her yeah if you want to pay for it she laughs at thats...doesnt volunteer to pay for it

i only get it from family but not only do i have to hear wow that's so far away.. but it's normally followed up with.. 'why are you waiting so long' and 'why not do it january of 08 (my date is jan of 09) i smile and say we'd love to do it in jan of 08 if we can get the money for it.. we're accepting donations in $500 increments.. should i put u down for $500, $1000, or $1500?
they normally change their tune after that and say 'well.. there's no rush you know..'
