Are you having a DOC?

Are you having a DOC?

I am trying to convince my FH that a DOC is a great idea. Are you having one? Why? Why not? What's the general price range? Thanks!

I'm having one. I don't want to be dealing with problems on the day of my wedding. I don't even want to know if there is one, because I will become the screaming chick in the white dress. For me that was enough of a reason. I believe they are all in the $500 range for the day.

We are having one because after 15 months of planning I want to be able to relax that week and that day and not have to stress about everything going the way that I want it to.

I am using Vanessa from By Your Side Events and she is $650 for an INSANE amount of services.

Yes, we have one... and Im so happy we decided we needed her... after seeing how hectic and all over the place my shower was, im so glad someone else will be around checking on all the little details for my wedding and making the day stress free for us!

Im not sure of the price range... Only went to one bc we spoke with her one time before and just had to have her bc she seemed so put together... she was $900 (on the higher end of doc's i believe, but she also brings an assistant along)... Laura from LA Productions... she's such a sweetheart and down to earth person

No we are not. I have been in 3 weddings in the past. I was my cousin's MOH & a BM for 2 of my friends. All 3 had DOC'S. They all did nothing of any substance. I found that the photographer & mater'd had a grasp on the whole day. In my opinion, I think DOC'S are a waste of money.

My FH doesnt understand why I need one either but i booked one. After so much planning I want to enjoy my day and not get stressed out about things that might be going wrong. My DOC handels everything inc the rehersal the day before. She also helps me through the entire process as far as ideas. We have unlimited email and phone contact.

I hired Cynthia Ross and she was $400

I don't agree with this. If you look at the list of wedding regrets, more than half the girls regret not getting certain pictures. A DOC would guarantee that the photographer got the pictures need. Also, they take the stress of you for the day. I have medical issues that are complicated by stress and I hired one for exactly that reason-to take the stress off of me.

I am having one. FH does not agree with the expense. I'm sticking to my guns on this one. It's the one luxury I am affording myself in this wedding process. (I got my dress on craig's list for $150... when i try to explain to FH how much money I saved on that, he just rolls his eyes at me... but seriously...)

In any event...

I am working with Ryan from Above & Beyond. She was recommended by a friend's sister (also a LIW gal!) and when I met with her a few weeks ago, she made me feel so comfortable and happy, I just knew that she'll be the solution to all my stresses, imagined or real.

Unlike some of the lucky girls on here, I have only been to 2 weddings on LI in the last 4 years and I was not at all involved in them. I've never been a BM before. Most of FH's family is OOT and can't help. I have a tiny bridal party and my mom's on dialysis 3 days a week and can't really do leg work. Basically, it was going to be me doing everything from day one with very few people to bounce off of (present company excluded off course -- love you gals!!!).

For me, a DOC is someone who is there for ME while I am here trying to coordinate everything for everyone else. I don't really understand what a maitre d' does at a wedding, but I know that trusting the whole day to someone I still haven't met 2 months before the wedding was not my idea of comfort. So for me it was the right decision.

You have to do what works for you. I'm sad FH was so upset about me getting a DOC, but after we talked about it for a while, I think he understands a little more.

HTH!

That's cool if that works for you in your condition. My thing is why spend an extra $400-$900 on a person to make sure your photographer gets the photos you want. Is it not the photographers job to do just that, get the photos you want? Give him a list of photos. When you need to pay someone to make sure another person is doing his/her job properly. It just seems like a waste of money to me. With all the money we are paying these pros to do their jobs, we should not need to pay a babysitter $400-$900 to insure they are doing their jobs!
Once again this is only my opinion.

Her purpose is not only to make sure people do their job but its to make you feel comfortable and not worry about the little things like...is the RH set up the way i want it or what if an OOT guest cant find a ride to the wedding at the last minute or something goes wrong with your dress. Normally you would freak out but if you know you have someone there who is a professional to handel it you can relax.

Prehaps.............But here's a question, What if the DOC was not as on the ball as you expected?
Maybe it's my demeanor. I try not to stress too much. Whatever will be will be. If it works for you & it will give you a calming feeling COOL! Whatever it takes to stay relaxed. As for me I'd rather spend $60.00 on a bottle of Tequlia.... That would keep me plenty calm.

Re: Are you having a DOC?

I'm having one. I need to keep sane the day of the wedding and a DOC is the best way to do this. I could ask family members to keep an eye on things but I don't want anyone missing out on the wedding because they need to make sure something goes according to plan.

I would say a DOC is a luxury. It's not necessary to have one but if you can fit it into your budget then go for it. They usually range from $500 onwards; but I would not pay more $600 for a DOC.

I would be up for doing this with girls on here. You wouldn't even need someone to necessarily stay the whole time, it's more making sure everything is set up consistent with your vision - tables set the right way, favors out, etc. We should think about this!
