Do I have to invite the officiant to the reception? If so, do they get an invitation?

We did, but MIL was friends with him and his wife, so they came.

We mentioned it to him at our first meeting, he said he ususally will attend the cocktail hour for a short while after the ceremony but not the reception. He's marrying us at the hall.

we are , but he is a friend of the family as well- he goes to many of the functions we have- ie: graduation

We're inviting him to the rehersal diner. They usually don't go to the wedding unless there a friend of the family.
