Are you involving your future in-laws in your wedding plans?
Original post by Iluvpoodles
My fiancee and I are planning and paying for our wedding. I'm very independent and like doing things and making decisions on my own. Even after I ask me maid of honor to be in my wedding and I don't plan on relying on her for planning or anything like that. I keep my family updated but don 't give them a rundown of every place we went to and don't plan on having my mom escort me to these places except when I get my dress. My financee on the other hand wants his family involved in the planning. I enjoy suggestions from both families but we really don't need any.

Our parents are paying for our wedding, so we keep them up to date about the appointments we make and have. But everyone lets me plan and then they give their input on what i've decided. It's not always fun hearing what they have to say, but they're paying for it so i just have to suck it up and listen. The only things that i have complete control over is my dress, bridal party's attire, where i'm going to live and honeymoon.

They are not involved. I was all for involving them at the beginning, but after FMIL said Westbury Manor was a 2nd rate place, I refuse to include her. If they ask, I will them what was done, but that's it.

Nope. Not anymore. I tried getting her involved but she doesnt seem to care either way, since she keeps telling us so wont be able to go cause she is so sick. I understand yes she is sick but at least go to the church to see her only child married. The church is only 1 block away from where she lives!!!! She could make it there.

i am very close with my FMIL & FH is her only child so i keep up in the loop of whats going on. once i picked out my dress i showed it to her for her opinion. my FMIL is very knowledgeable on many topics. i value her opinion. my parents may r paying for the RH & they will even be including FMILs name on the invite. we all feel its the best way to start off our marriage.

It sounds to me that his parents are interested in everything thats going on. Remember - not everyone has that. I don't think there is anything wrong with the 2 MILS exchanging phone numbers and talking about the plans....

FMIL is from FL... and has never ONCE spoken to me, maybe she thinks it's awkward. I don't know, but I'm not sure if FH tells her about anything or not.
FFIL couldn't give two craps, but if he asks I'll tell him, but he doesn't ask. If they wanted to be involved, I'd let them, but they don't want to be involved.
They're not rude about it, they just don't ask us about our plans,so I never share anything.

My parents are very involved in the planning. If FH's mom wanted to be, I wouldnt mind at all. I think since a wedding is such a big deal and a family affair, it makes sense for your FH's mom to want to be in the loop.

I've really enjoyed talking about plans to FFIL and FMIL. They have asked me questions and I've tried very hard to include them. To me it's less about who is paying and more about becoming a family.

FH's family lives in MA but yes!!! I just sent my FMIL a novel which told her every detail about our wedding plans so far, and she was sooo appreciative and excited. She said she would call me later this week to discuss it more (she's in FL right now with FSIL [and the hubby] who just had her [their] first baby!!) and I'm really glad she's on board like this. I'm THRILLED to include FH's family in the planning, and my parents are paying for the entire wedding, down to the last detail.
FH's dad saw the email too and he was sooo happy to be kept in the loop.
