Are you letting your guests request songs?

Are you letting your guests request songs?

I mean will your guests be allowed to go up to your DJ/Band and make personal requests.

I do not know how I feel about this. Fh says why not- if it keeps people dancing?

They can request but my band was told certain songs that I said, NO to. There was NO electric slide or Macarama!! I don't care who requests it I told them.
Also, guests can sometimes request funky stuff that most guests may not want. Think 14 year old requesting some Hip Hop and now no one is on the dance floor. You know what I mean?

Michele, this is why I am not so sure. I don't want someone requesting some song from 1957 that no one has ever heard of.

My dj 'forgot' to play songs that were requested that he didn't think would appeal to the majority of our guests.

our guest list is pretty small..so I know favorites of most people..I am including them in our list of must haves..for example..we have a reggae/ soca band...that pretty much takes care of all my FH's relatives because they are all from Trinidad and thats all they listen too. I am also having a DJ, and Must haves are Motown for my dad, and mixed music for the rest of the guests..there is no electric slide..no chickend dance..none of that..but Ill make sure to have alittle of every type of music t keep everyone going. Just talking about makes me so excited for my wedding!!!

I have a very specific do not play list. They can request, but my DJ ensured us that he will tactfully tell them that he has certain must we request that he has to play first.

No Chicken Dance, No Brittany, No Macarena, NO N'sync...and so on.

I am letting them request songs but I am not letting my DJ play a song for my daughter dedicated to her by FSIL so she can dance with her. NOPE my wedding. I will have a song for my baby but not her.;

Our guests were allowed to request songs, but if it was something weird, he had to ask us if we wanted the song played. We had a traditional caucus song requested by one couple, but since nobody would know how to dance to it we said 'no' to playing that specific song.

I feel mean, but I am going to tell my DJ not to accept requests. I don't want to hear Brittany, Christina, or Justin, either. However, I've heard from couples that have tried to micromanage every aspect of their wedding day...and once they relaxed and let go, it turned out fun for everyone.
It's your day...whatever makes you happy.

No way, no how.

nope I won't allow it. There are some popular songs that I can't stand and I can see someone like a BM asking for the dj to play it. If I hear a specific type of spanish music I freak!!! So too bad but no. What may be a good song for them may not be a good one for the other 99% of your guests. I am not letting a guest run my show!

I don't see any harm in it but no one did this at my wedding.

NO!!
Alcohol,my family/friends and the DJ don't mix! I've already had friends joke around about what songs they are requesting, it's my wedding not my sweet sixteen! Requests will not be happening at my wedding.

Re: Are you letting your guests request songs?

Well, they can but I am giving my DJ a 'no play' list and I'm sure some will ask for 'Danny Boy' but I really don't want to hear it. But there'll be enough of other irish music that my FH and I like so I hope no one will even think to request it

Also, my FH loves Elvis so of course that's OK...and he likes other 50's and disco music (he's strange that way...lol...like BeeGee's/Saturday night fever type stuff) - but whatever everyone is dancing to is OK by me. Yes to electric slide because me and my college pals used to do it all the time in school but no to the macarena and I will whisper to DJ not *too* much on the 50's/disco stuff. They'll also be some Clannad and Enya and Chieftans stuff when we are eating and some irish type dances (no jigs!!) but the Siege of Ennis (it's like a line dance, it's actually alot of fun if you don't mind getting too dizzy) and I'd rather no Brittany...but I'm not having any teens at my wedding so I doubt we'll hear any of her stuff. Mostly songs that are on a college bar jukebox, some irish stuff, some 50's and some disco. I think that will be a good mix! And if I hear a song I dind't ask for, I'm not going to freak. I think I can stand it for 3 minutes or so. LOL

Other then certain songs on our DO NOT PLAY list, guests can request what ever they wanted.

One of our guests did request a rap song and the DJ would NOT play it unless it was cleared with someone.

No Way!!! We are having a do not play list, and the rest is up to the DJ and what we like. He assured us that is how he likes to work anyway.

Re: Are you letting your guests request songs?

Nope, absolutely not. It's not a club it's OUR wedding and we are in charge of everything. It's our day to be king and queen to boss around. We have a 'do not play' list and the rest is up to our band. The only exception of what song was when one of my BM who has a passion for karaoke sang 'From This Moment On' by Shania Twain. She sang beautifully as I was more then ever proud of our wedding party.

This is my opinion, however to each their own.

Please be careful with this!!!

Give them your do not play list, but also....my DJ got them all night long & he played most of them, now these songs were not on my do not play list, however, he didn't play enough newer stuff cause he played so many **** requests !!!!!!1
