Are you letting your guests request songs?

Original post by nrvbrd

I mean will your guests be allowed to go up to your DJ/Band and make personal requests.

I do not know how I feel about this. Fh says why not- if it keeps people dancing?

I am allowing requests. I think people want to hear songs they like not just what we like.

I will add a word of caution. I had a MAJOR episode at my wedding in reference to this. I had the song 'We Are Family' on my 'do not play' list, like alot of girls I know had. A cousin of my husband (who is a piece of #$%&^ to me now) requested this song. The band told her 'that song is on the bride's do not play list'. Well, she flipped out about that. It created a big thing at my wedding. I never thought the band would share anything on my list with guests. I would of assumed they would of just said something like' we will see if we will get to it' and maybe the band could of asked me or something. Then I had to listen to vendors telling me the band calmed a horrible situation down. I think the band lit the flame!!!!
My point is, find out how the band will handle someone requesting something on your 'do not play' list. Obviously the band I had did not in any way know how to deal with this situation in a professional manner.

I heard a horror story- I think on here- about someone who requested a song with the dj and asked them to dedicate the song to her husband!!!! I would be so upset and ****ed if someone did that to me at my wedding!!! DEDICATING A SONG to someone else, with your money... A little nervy. So no, no song requests will be accepted.

We are not allowing requests either. The DJ knows that if someone asks for something they need to clear it first with me or my FH.

NO WAY!! I am going to have a massive do not play list, and anything else has to be cleared through me first - even requests from my parents and FILS

You really, really need to think about this before the wedding. I *never* thought that I would have had an 'issue' with song requests at my wedding, but I had one of DH's family members request TO SING at my reception!!! She didn't even bother to ASK ME or DH! She just marched up to my band leader and asked to sing a song for us. (Needless to say, she was horrible!)
I cannot blame my band leader for allowing it b/c what if she was really important person to me and DH - than he would have been insulting to her to say NO!

The kicker is - her stepson got married two years before us, and she DIDN'T even TRY to sing at HIS WEDDING!
