During my lunch hour, I read an interesting article in Oprah Magazine (LOVE this mag!) about setting goals in your life. It really got me thinking about my career and my happiness with it. I work as an admin. assistant in a patent and trademark law firm (YAWN). The pay, believe it or not, is fantastic -- because I actually have to know ALOT about patent law (God, take me, please). Even though the money is good, I don't enjoy it and I dread getting up in the morning.
I also work part-time as a licensed veterinary technican -- which is basically an animal nurse. I take blood, x-rays, IV sedation, euthanasia (unfortunately), etc. The pay is very low, but I love animals so much that I stay on. I don't love the job as much as I thought I would (it's alot of hard, physical work and the pay stinks) but I know that I want to work with animals in some way.
The Oprah article really got me thinking about what would 'feed my soul' so to speak. Are any of you lucky enough to LOVE what you do and are fulfilled by it? Inquiring minds wanna know!!!!
I was thinking how cool it would be to own my own pet boarding/grooming place. The money would (hopefully) be good, I'd be my own boss, and I'd get to 'play' with the animals!

Re: Are you living your 'dream'??
I don't think I'm at my 'dream' yet but I'm working on getting there. Besides getting married next year, I have a great group of friends and an amazing family. As for my career, I was at a point where I was miserable and almost quit. Instead, I made some changes and things are getting better here. I'm also back in school pursuing another career-path which will hopefully get me into the field I've always wanted to be in.

Re: Are you living your 'dream'??
I am working toward it; I'm sidelined with my focus on the wedding, but I fully intend to be a published author within the next few years. It's the only thing I've ever wanted and I won't let anything stop me.

Re: Are you living your 'dream'??
this not even close to my dream job - but it is a great job for starting out right out of college and the pay is very good. I took it to pay for the wedding and save for a home. My priorities have changed....we'll see what the future holds....

Re: Are you living your 'dream'??
I thought this was 'my dream' but dreams change
I achieved alot early on in my career and now with out constant promotions I got unmotivated
I got promoted 3 times in 2 years at a major department store which is a HUGE accomplishment in the retail world- but now I am bored and ready to find something else

Re: Are you living your 'dream'??
I am very happy with my life. I was stuck at a job that I loved but hated the people and the pay. I was lucky enough to have my new job fall in my lap. Now I work with people that I like doing a job that I really loved. it's the only thing I ever really wanted to be.
I am marrying my soul mate who is an amazing partner. Looking back on the past year, FH and I have had a really hard year. However, I wouldn't change it for anything. Everything that we have experienced have made us the wonderful couple we are.
