are you low balling your hall???

We have all heard about the infamous 'no shows' at weddings, and I am sure we all assume it wont happen to us, but it seems that for one reason or another it happens to everyone.

Should we give the hall say a final count of 5 less people just to cover ourselves? when we met w/ the hall they said anyone we are unsure of to leave off, and we arent unsure of anyone but we also dont want to pay for people that arent there. what will you/did u do?

Marie-
We were thinking of doing this just because I don't want to pay for peopel that don't show. I was thinking of saying 4-6 less than what I actually have & just paying for them the day of.

while there are sometimes those 'no-shows' at weddings...don't forget that some people have horrible manners and etiquette and might respond no..and end up showing up to the wedding with dates! a lot of times you get a nice balance because there will be rude people who RSVP'd single and bring a date, or who didn't RSVP and come. i say give the appropriate head count, and chances are the no-shows and rude people will balance each other out

we had to give our hall both a head and table count becuase we had different size tables. If our hall does that too, they will verify that your numbers match up.

I heard you should do that. How do you handle table arrangements then?

I never understood how you can do it...
I know at my hall, we have to give them a floor plan and the amount of people at each table, to ensure the correct amount of place settings...if you low ball it, arent you risking some tables being short and some guests not having a place to sit?

I feel the same way...I am already concerned that someone is going to have to try and pay attention during the CH to see if people who responded 'No' actually show up....Past Brides please help!!!

I don't think we will be lowballing-- too stressful to deal with.

we gave a number and were extremely lucky that that exact number of people showed up.

i got married earlier this year but i'm helping my brother plan his wedding. even tho they returned rvsps, we had 3 less people. maybe i'll say 3-5 less for my brother's wedding.

I have to give my hall a final count on the 27th & then pay them on the 31st so I figure that gives me an extra weekend to find out if people change their minds I figure by the monday before my wedding peopel who think they might not come will let me know.

We lowballed by 6 and we had a no-show and some left early. Our hall ended up not charging us anything extra at the end. Our BM also suggested that we tell her less than the actual number in case of no-shows.

Our hall let us lowball b/c we met our minimum of 225. They told us to take 5 people off of the final count, and we paid for the total # of guests (minus the 5) beforehand. Then, on the day before, we gave them the final count and the final seating chart. On the day of the wedding, we paid in cash for the additional people. This worked out well b/c a couple of people cancelled a few days before due to family emergencies.

i'm probably going to low ball, only b/c of the amount of people that either didn't respond and didn't show up, and did respond and didn't show up to my e-party. we ended up ordering extra food and in the end, we didn't use any of it.

I never thought of doing this but I think I just might. I was talking to FH's cousin and she said she lost $2000 to the hall due to no-shows! That's alot of $$$. Could use that def towards something else!

Is is rude to turn them away ??? I hope that isn't a dumb question... But I totally plan on confirming each RSVP...

I totally understand an emergency situation where someone RSVPed and not showing up but if someone Replys NO and shows up without calling someone to let them know they are coming.. that is just plain rude!!!

no i dont really think its rude at all. This would be a great job for your DOC if you have one. As long as its done tastefully than I see nothing wrong w/ it, what IS rude is saying no and just showing up!
