Are you overgenerous?

I consider myself and my Dh to be pretty generous people, but sometimes he goes way overboard!! Our friends have a really nice garden and we don't have any outside space, so we've been over to theirs for BBQ's several times this summer. My DH insists on bringing pretty much everything!!!! He is a meat freak, and will take these trips to the market where they trade beef and buy all sorts of things. I know that some of the motivation behind him bringing everything is that he just wants to eat what he brings!! But, it's starting to bug me, because not only do we end up feeding the world (when we're invited out AND when we're having people over), but I'm beginning to think it's rude. I mean when people have a BBQ don't you think they want to make what they want?

I know our friends are grateful, and I think they think it's endearing in a way but it's beginning to become a running joke and I hate to see everyone poking fun of him. He just doesn't understand that sometimes too much is just too much!

My FH is ridiculous! When we go to weddings and stuff, we always argue about how much to give, because he always wants to give this tremendous gift - - like a few hundred dollars per person. He kills me! We have a christening to go to this weekend - and yes, they are good friends of ours....but it's not like they're family....and he wants to give them a $1,000 savings bond (cost to us = $500)! We totally cannot afford to be that generous - though the baby is precious!

Your DH should go to some of my boss' BBQs. Those are always bring-your-own-meat! I think its a really nice gesture that he does that (meaning your FH), but to expect it is crazy!

Anyways, I was thinking about last christmas, and we were way, way overgenerous. I mean, we spent $100 alone on presents for everyone's animals. We went way overboard. This year, we're going to have to cut it down. But those poor cats and dogs that are only going to get ONE toy for chistmas! It breaks my heart!

My DH is out of control. He always pays! We recently took my brother and his wife to the Dodger/Met game with his company tickets and then out to a comedy club= he paid for all our tickets and the drink bill even though my brother offered to pay their share. He justifies it with, they bought a couple of rounds after! Come on, already!

I don't think we generally overly generous with gifts but DH DOES have a tendency to the SAME thing with BBQs!! Maybe it's a guy thing???

MY FH is like that, the nicest person ever, sometimes I get upset like maybe someone one day will try to walk all over him but he would not let that happen, what it comes down to is he likes to see other people very happy!!

Yes! Whenever we go to a wedding or event I always feel like we're not giving enough, even if we give a lot, or a lot more than we can afford, and then afterward I realize 'you know, we really gave a lot', but that doens't help me for next time. I always feel like I'm not giving enough

I usually try to be overgenerous but there are times when the $$$ is just not there (like this month...bad, bad $$$ month)

I definitely used to be...not so much now. People are going to be shocked this Christmas or if they ever invite us over.

FH - not so much. Me - yes. Especially with tipping at restaurants and Christmas presents (I always go overboard). Plus I find myself adding my own money to the tips when I go out with groups (I just went on vacation with a group of friends and was SHOCKED at some of the tips they wanted to leave at restaurants - so low)
