Are you providing meals for the vendors.....?

Original post by joedi

Regarding photo, video, band etc., are you paying for the meals?I have heard that some caterers say it is mandatory. Some charge 50% of what guests are paying.Did the caterers make you write that into the contract?
Did the various vendors write a meal into their contract? or is it a given.
I would like to know everyone's experiences. Thank you.

my vendors were full price because they weren't house vendors. of course i fed them. in fact, i fed lia and paula (imagine studios) breakfast and coffee at my house before we even got on the road.

i also tipped well. it's not their fault the hall charged me so much for their food, i wouldn't take it out of their tip.

I'm feeding my videographer, photographer and asst - they are around all day.

I'm not feeding my band. They only play from 2pm - 6pm. There are 9 of them and they said they'd rather a tip. Plus, its not that long and who eats during those hours? They can eat at the cocktail hour (1 - 2) for free (my hall allows this).

Yes, I actually asked my photography place if they wanted to be fed and the guy looked at me like I had three heads. He told me they definitly want to be fed because they will be with us all day for like 8 hours and they don't get a break to get their own food. But, check with them, some would rather not get fed and get a larger tip.

Absolutely, without a doubt. Granted, some of them won't eat and will prefer to just work, but the ones who are with you all day deserve to get a break to eat. My hall lets house vendors eat for free and then outside vendors are 50% of my pp price, after I have met my minimum. Same with kids.

FH used to work for a photographer, and the one thing he demanded when we were starting our planning was that the vendors get fed.

Sure, I'm letting all the vendors go to town! I would feel bad if they were watching everyone else eat and couldn't eat themselves.

The last thing I want to do is tick off my vendors!

Yes! I think that it is only right to do so. They are with you for almost the entire day.

I also think it's a given that you feed your vendors...and I'm paying half price for mine.

At the Sans Souci they charge me 50% for the vendors, if I used their vendors then I would not have had to pay for them, but since I did not go with any of their vendors I am going to end up paying about $50 pp, I think it is well worth it for eveything that they are doing for me.

My banquet manager is the best. He told me he will set up a table in an out-of-the-way place and I can order a few sandwiches and salads from a local deli for the vendors instead of paying full price to feed them the same meal as my guests.

We're also feeding our vendors - 2 photogs & 1 videographer, but I'm gonna ask the 2 DJs if we have to feed them since they're working 6-11pm & can probably eat at the cocktail hour w/other guests anyways. If we have to feed DJs too we will no problem. We pay half price for vendors also.
