Just wondering whos not going to be helping out with the painting of the nursery. I get mixed review if its safe or not.

Re: are you staying away from painting?
I would stay away. There are fumes in paint and I wouldn't chance it.

I was under the impression (could be wrong) that if you were a respirator mask thing and gloves you should be ok. AND use water based latex paint. IS this correct? Anyone?

I wore a mask and gloves and painted in my house...my Dr said it is Ok as long as you have ventilation

I did a small amount of painting in a well ventilated area.

Re: are you staying away from painting?
I was working on a hospital unit when they were painting the entire wing and I always checked with the docs who reassured me that as long as there is ventilation it's fine. Year sback preg women were advised to stay away from paint because of the lead in it. I helped my husband paint my daughter's nursery, and I stenciled all around her room at week 38. It's just like bleach, you can use it but make sure you don't OD on it

I heard it's safe if it's ventilated, but we decided to be overly cautious and I stayed at my mom's the weekend we had the nursery painted. My painter was using an oil based primer to cover up this really bright green that was on the trim in there, and he said he'd feel a lot better if I wasn't around.

I read mixed things too and was still willing to help but DH wouldn't let me. He painted the nursery, our hallway and stained the doors recently. Sometimes I was home and sometimes I wasn't. But if I was home, he opened up windows to keep the room well ventilated and I typically stayed in another part of the house.

I avoided it when pregnant. You should also avoid newly laid carpet if you are putting that in there fro 24 hours... something about the glue...
