Areas in Northern / Central NJ that are fairly affordable?

DH works in Springfield and I am in Manhattan - we live in Jersey City now but next summer want to move into the 'burbs - any suggestions? I don't mind a commute - well, not too much. I'll just read my book LOL

my friend is in Rockland NY...she really likes it...there are buses into Manhattan or buses to Path trains...but I think they only run m-f

but it is pretty affordable and there are some good schools

I live in East Rutherford which is in Bergen County. I live in a condo. Not sure what you consider 'reasonable'. It's just as expensive here as it is on LI!

we live in morris township & love it! its about an hour commute to the city. we have a great real estate agent if you are interested.

some other great neighborhoods (with a shorter commute) to look into: livingston, new providence (great schools, high taxes), watchung, westfield (great but pricey). many of our friends (& relatives) have moved out here recently.

we used this website extensively to narrow down neighborhoods: multiple listing service of NJ
they list town, but not street- you have to contact the listing agent for that.

good luck!
