So, at dinner my mother starts discussing my shower guest list, and says it is too small (given the number of OOT people on it) to hold it at the country club where the rehersal dinner is. First, thanks mom for telling me in advance where my sister was planning on holding it.
Then she says how come Christine isn't on the list? HUH?!?! Christine is my sister's best friend, was my sister's other BM at her wedding in '04, and also happens to be my brother's ex-girlfriend. They dated for 15 years, but my committment phobic brother refused to propose and she dumped him. She is now married, with two kids, and at my sister's wedding he was crying to me about how much in love with her he is and what a mistake he made.
My mother thinks I should invite her b/c she is like part of the family.
Then she tells me she thinks I should invite my sister's in-laws!! HUH?!?!?! They're my sister's inlaws - not mine. I don't particularly care for them, AND my mother can't stand them. Yet she thinks for the sake of harmony I should extend the invite. Oh, and not to worry because they won't come anyway. On this point she is probably right b/c they live in the Bronx and my sister had to rent a limo bus for her wedding to transport all the guests that were coming from the Bronx. But then again, she could be wrong.
So, the question is do I add these people to the already too big guest list??

Re: ARGH!!!!!! More Guest List Drama
I guess it's really up to you. At this point, will four extra people really make a difference? Also..I want to add that my dad told me today that I should invite my sisters boyfriends parents. UM OK..WHY?!!!?!?! I have never even met them and I don't think they have either!!!!!!

Re: ARGH!!!!!! More Guest List Drama
since the poll is all over the place...
I voted for sister's in laws to keep the harmony.
but definitely not your brothers ex and her husband. that's too weird.

Re: ARGH!!!!!! More Guest List Drama
I think it depends on how close you are the Christine. If she really IS like a family-member (in your eyes - not only Mom's), then you may want to consider it. However, I don't think you should feel obligated to invite your sister's In-laws. JMHO.

I say none of them. I am on a cutting back the list kick and really feel that if they are questionable they don't need to be there.

I would only invite who YOU and JOHN want there! This isn't your moms day, or your brothers, or your sisters. Just yours. If you want her there, then do it, but no to the freaking in-laws.

I say none of them. This is your wedding and not your sisters. It should be people who want to be there to share in your day, not people invited just for the sake of or for harmony purposes!!!
Who gives a rats arse about extending the olive branch to other's in laws!

Re: ARGH!!!!!! More Guest List Drama
In reading back what I wrote - I realize I probably should have mentioned that Christine was my hairdresser. I stopped using her after she had her twins b/c it was just too much of a pain to schedule an appointment. My mom stopped using her as well, but my aunt still goes to her.
I actually do like her, unlike my sister's inlaws, but it never occured to me to include her on the guest list.
And where on earth is all of this coming from??? My mom has looked over my guest list at least a dozen times to make sure I wasn't missing anyone.
Can I elope now???????????????????????????????????
The answer I got from FH was a very emphatic NO.

Re: ARGH!!!!!! More Guest List Drama
I wouldn't, they are not your family. And you said you don't care for sister's inlaw family. My dad wanted me to invite stepsister's inlaws to my wedding. My dad has only been married for almost five years and they are very nice, but not my family. I told him no way. Another example, me inviting both sister-in-laws parents also. I don't see them or really know them to well.

. As to inviting any of them to your Bridal shower, I would say a big fat NO to all of them. Tell your mother you don't need more people tocome to your shower. This is one of the few just you parties you have in your life and for pete sake you deserve to enjoy it! I feel so sorry for all the issues you poor girls on here as a whole have to deal with. Many of you have had some real major family issues. My heart goest out to you all.

I feel exactly as I quoted above...it's about YOU AND YOUR DH - only invite those who you would be happy to see and share in your day.
