Argument with FH

Re: Argument with FH

I'm afraid I'm going to have to disagree with the PPs here. I think that ivory shirts make the groom and the GMs look dingy, and have little to no effect on the bride. Think of a sliver of off-white cuff (instead of a crisply white one) extending beyond the sleeve of a tuxedo jacket. Doesn't look good.

I had an ivory dress and the groom, GMs, and table linens were white. Admittedly, we haven't received professional photos back yet, but in all of our guests' photos (including those from an uncle who is a semi-pro photographer and videographer), you can't tell the difference.

In the throes of wedding planning, we see shades of white, but most if not all guests see only white. If I notice that the bride's wearing an ivory dress, I think, 'She's wearing an ivory dress' and think nothing more of it. I don't use the bride's dress as a baseline of white to use as a comparison to other fabrics.

My $0.02.

I realize he really wants to wear white, but in my opinion, he should go with ivory. Most brides have been dreaming about their wedding gown from time they are little girls. You shouldn't have to change the dress you chose. He should be able to compromise to wear the exact same tux with ivory instead of white - it's not a huge difference! Plus most places won't let you exchange your dress.

So, FH called from work and just apologized for being a pain. His exact words were, 'I was being a baby, I havent really been helping through this whole process so I shouldnt have gotten so heated about the colors' LOL Thats why I love him, he always ends up apologizing! It just takes him a few hours to realize he was wrong! Thanks for the advice. I think Im going to tell him to wear the white with maybe an ivory tie like one of the posters recommended. Thanks to everyone btw for helping settle this. I love these forums!

u're not over reacting..... i had to deal with the same thing...but instead while i was at the bridal shop (the tuxes were out of the same place) i grabbed an 'off-white' shirt and said 'wow look at this one! it's so much more rich looking than the stark white'....... i think the positive excitement swayed his reaction lol. I know it sounds stupid, but if he's a typical boy and wouldn't catch on that they're pretty much the same thing - i would say 'okay lets compromise...what if you get 'off-white' instead of ivory??? (there really is a difference - (it's not as 'yellow' as ivory but more rich than 'white')...... if he still disagrees i would just make it really clear about it looking richer & nicer than stark white and it's that it's not going to match in pictures!! (espcecially in ones with the 2 of you!)..... also, what color are the BM dresses??? u could also say you dont want the stark white with the BM colors???? ( i did this as well...my dresses were deep red & i told him the 'white & red' reminded me of my highschool colors lol) ANWYAYS, now i'm rambling! good luck!

Re: Argument with FH

He should be wearing an off white or ivory. At the very least an off white. Do not change the color of your dress!!! Tell him the bridal shop said it is impossible to change the dress color that the manufacterer already cut the dress and you would have to pay for another one. They always say this is the one thing they care about meanwhile we are doing every little detail. Its BS do not change the color! LOL I am mad!
