Army guy planning wedding for deployed significant other
Original post by 82ndmedic
Hello. My name is Will. I am a Long Island native. (Sayville) Have been stationed in Ft. Bragg NC for the last 4 years. My sister turned me onto this site because I am planning my wedding for me and my bride to be.
She is currently serving in Iraq and will be there till around July time frame. We are looking at a mid-September date and that would defiantly not leave us a good time frame to wait till she comes back to start. So I have told her that I will do all the legwork for her while she is gone.
We are going to have the wedding on a beach or beach backdrop (weather depending) We have narrowed it down to a blue/green color scheme. I would love any idea's or experience that anybody can give on good/bad experience with beach style weddings.
I am starting to realize what I have just undertook and want to make sure I get this all right for her. Please help... There is soo much out there for me to learn, I just need a little......OK a lot of guidance.

Wow, yay for you for doing this! You're the groom of the year! I agree with the other girls about The Knot. Also, since you're in NC there are so many great places to shop to keep costs down. My sister lives in Charlotte and I plan on making a special wedding related trip down there to buy lots of stuff. Definitely check out Hobby Lobby, Old Time Pottery, and Garden Rigde for centerpieces, fake flowers and all kinds of other little wedding touches.

Thank you all for those amazing idea's. I wound up being awake till about 4 am with my sister searching threw websites to find a location. Closest we found was 2 hrs away I have a few places I am going to go look at next weekend. This one is on the top of my list
There are a few other places I want to check out in the area like hotels and such. May as well make a full day out of it. Thank you for all the idea's and links. I have soo many bookmarked idea's. And I am really diggin the little shops and like do it yourself favors. Will definatly cut on costs and adds more of a personal touch.
Oh umm At some point a buffet style reception idea was brought up. Figured I would get your inputs on it. Is it cheeper? How well does it work or is this just a really bad idea??

Ive been to weddings with buffets and sit down and I could really care less whichever the bride and groom choose as long as I am getting fed lol.
I think it depends on the hall whether or not it is cheaper. When you have a sit down, the guests are all getting one plate per person of food, where the buffet people can get up for seconds, which means the hall or caterer has to prepare more food which might drive up the cost. I would talk to your hall and see what they say.
