True Life on MTV is on now and its about arranged marriages. i'm sure it will be on later today as well. its soooo interesting!

One of my co-workers is from Bangladesh and she had an arranged marriage and was very happy until her husband died of cancer at an early age Her son is now 17 and has grown up in America, but he will still have an arranged marriage according to all the customs and he is perfectly fine with it. I think other cultures are really interesting in their customs and I always talk to my friend about it and she is always so willing to share about her experiences as a very religious Muslim woman. Its fascinating!

One of my aunt's friends who is from India was in an arranged marriage. Her husband was abusive and a cheater so she ran away to America. He has threatened to kill her if she ever comes back and has kept their daughter so she has little to no contact with her. It's really sad.
Arranged marriages don't always work, and let's face it, it's strange to us because they're archaic and we all believe in true love!

From time to time you hear stories like this one. That's insane though. She had to flea to America. Yea, they don't believe in divorce in some of those countries and some women have to go through extremes like what you mentioned.

I have a student who told me last year that this summer her father is going to have an arranged marriage set up for her so his friend (is his 30's-early 40's) could get married and become a US citizen. She's 14 now! DISGUSTING!! I haven't heard anything lately about it but I had to report it. She's is such a good kid its not right.

one of my friends from hs had an arranged marriage.
We used to cut school together and her parents would never let her out, so of course she would tell me all this stuff that they did in her country, traditions, rules etc....
Anyway, about a month ago i was out with 2 of my friends from hs and we ran into her and she has 3 babies and is a stay at home mommy...didnt hear much complaints, she was just saying how tired she was. So who knows. I guess it depends on the couple also.
I just felt bad, she never got to hang out with us after school or on weekends yet we were so close with her.
