I heard this on the radio. I remember reading The Crucible in school and thinking it was pretty wild.
I hate when great members of the literary community pass on.

Sometimes when people are like legends in their own time, we as the public, tend to think they are already dead.
It doesn't make you a bad English teacher, unless you told your students he was already dead

Re: Arthur Miller died!
I was just talking to my DH and told him about Mr. Miller's passing. He said 'That's sad he was a nice man.' I thought he was joking and replied 'Oh, I forgot you two were friends.' Well, he informed me that Mr. Miller was in Conn. and came to see my DH's college (he went to a conservatory) production of 'The Crucible'(DH played John Proctor) and spoke to him for quite some time after the show was over. I am so jealous!!!!

That starred Patrick Stewart right? I wanted to see it, but I was away the whole run.

Did you see the most recent production with Brian Denehy(sp?)? If not , they filmed it for HBO and you should see if you can find a tape of it. It is amazing.

I know!!!! First I have to live with the fact that he has a picture of himself with Bernedette Peters (one of my idols). Now, I find out that Aruthur Miller saw him perform and had a conversation with him!!!

There's a great write up on him in the nytimes online edition today.
His mark on modern drama is enormous.

Re: Arthur Miller died!
sad. i remember coming to the realization in high school that he was actually ALIVE!!! with every author we studied having been dead, he was already a legend and still alive. i didn't love the melancholy of his work, but rather his ability to consistently write classics!

Heather, I so agree! I would have been dropping his name like it was my part-time job!
