Our honeymoon will be at the end of August (Aug. 21-28) and we can;t decide between Aruba or Cancun.
We like the Occidental Grand in Aruba and the El Dorado Royale in Cancun.
Has anyone stayed in either of these hotels and can give us advice.
I know hurricane season can start at the end of August but I heard that it peaks in September so that's our concern with Cancun because we know Aruba is out of the hurricane belt.

I would go with Aruba, it's a safer choice hurricane wise.

I would go with Aruba. It is out of the hurricane belt, so you won't have to worry about that. I went to Aruba for my HM and loved it!

This is my dilemma as well!! I heard the beaches in Cancun aren't that great anymore b/c of hurricane Wilma and Aruba is just beautiful, but the El Dorado offers so much more. I hate decisions

I've been to both places but prefer Cancun/Riviera Maya much more than Aruba (even though Aruba is very nice). But if you want to be sure to avoid hurricanes during that season you might wan to go with Aruba.
Beaviss80 is right, you might want to check out Cabo

Thanks!
I will look into Cabo but I heard that a lot of the beaches aren't swimmable. I agree - the El Dorado is great for a honeymoon but the weather is great in Aruba. It's a diffiult decision. Has anyone been to Riviera Maya at the end of August? How was the weather?

Re: Aruba or Mexico
I know I already replied to this and I said Aruba, but I have not stayed at either resort you have named but I was in Cancun a couple of months ago and it is still VERY devistated from the hurricanes. I would say about 50% of the hotels were still destroyed (meaning just frames that construction hasnt started on yet) but it is still a great place to go. It is a very young city. It was great for us, we were able to go out, party and enjoy the city but I think Aruba is wayyy better for a honeymoon. I would love to do ours there but since we have already been we will probably do something different like Turks and Caicos or something else. I highly recommend Aruba and if you do decide to go there, I can recommend some activities to do while being on the island.
Good luck!

Re: Aruba or Mexico
Def go with Aruba. I went their over the summer for my FH's brothers wedding and it's beautiful. Much cleaner than many of the other islands. I've been there a few times and my FH does a lot of family vacations there. It's beautiful.

Re: Aruba or Mexico
If you like Mexico, have you thought of acapulco or any of the other cities/beaches on the pacific coast of Mexico iike cabo & baja? i don't think the hurricanes affect that area as much as on the gulf coast. Acapulco has its own airport, not sure about the other ones though....

I own a time share at Occidental and we are going to the Occidental in Cozumel for our HM or Aruba. Most likely Mexico during the same time as you since we are DATE TWINS . All I have to say is that the Occidental Hotels are amazing. You have nothing to worry about booking with them.

Re: Aruba or Mexico
My future sister in law is a travel agent and we are booked with the Occidental in Aruba. Everyone that I have talked to that has gone there is addicted to going back. You are pretty much gauranteed good weather. I think it is the safer choice.
We originally wanted to stay in the US and were considering the Florida Keys but were concerned with Hurricanes. So - I have peace of mind knowing I don't even need to worry about it in Aruba.
