a&S

it's a sad day for A&S bagels.

it burned down last night...

i'm soo soo upset about it! what am i going to eat at 2am when i want a sandwich!!!!!!!!!

Just that 1.

FH got a text from someone about it last night. And i went on facebook and everyone thuoght it was just a bad rumor. Then we saw pics.

a friend of mine was talking about this on facebook. i personally thought he was crazy. one of his friends said they already saw people cleaning up & they think they will rebuild.

FH and I used to go there all the time when were were in Elmont/Franklin Square.

It's very sad.

My FH knows the owner. (its his friends uncle). The fire started in one of the ovens. There were 20 fire trucks on the scene to put out the fire. Its in pretty bad shape. The fire dept had to go in from the laundromat next door to get in to the building!!

Its so sad! So many memories at A&S!

I also heard it from a post on FB.

I think the catechist's from my church got bagels from A&S yesterday morning, so I guess the two mini's I had were the last I will have for awhile from A&S. Such a shame. I heard that it will take about a month to have them rebuild it.

Cherry Valley is now 5 min up the block from A&S. Also 24 hours

they say they are.
I don't see why they wouldn't though. There are always lines there (esp sunday mornings and fri/sat nights)

i live down the block from A&S and freaked out because i was at my mom's house and saw all the smoke - i had no clue what was going on. FH and I walked to the turnpike to see what was happening and we saw the flames shooting out from the roof. it was scary and i couldn't believe all the smoke. my clothes were still smelling of smoke a few hours after the fire ended and i was standing a block away.

There were 5 fire departments on scene, franklin sq, elmont, west hempstead, stewart manor, and garden city. malverne and new hyde park (headquarters - not estates) were put on standby.

I'm sure the place will reopen because they are always so busy. they said it was an accidental fire, they don't suspect arson. no one was hurt seriously - only a firefighter with a sprained ankle, which is a good thing.
