Honestly, if I were a BM and my hair and makeup wasn't being paid for by the bride, I'd just do it myself. I don't really understand why I'd need a professional when it's not my wedding.
But that's just me.
Of course, if the bride whose party I was in wanted me to have my hair and makeup professionally done, I'd shell out for whatever she arranged for, but I'd be surprised about it.
I think either is a very lovely gesture and would be appreciated.

I would want hair makeup and jewelry probably. Even though I never wore the DOJ again either, it was nice to know I didn't have to worry about finding something on my own. MU and hair is a very generous gift... I've never been given that as a BM!

I have 4 girls so its not terribly bad (im getting a great deal on hair n makeup so its possible for me to do this)
FH wants to just pay for the guys suits as their gift... which I think the guys def wouldnt mind bc they prob dont even know that they are suppossed to get a gift
So all n all, we're prob spending $100 on each person (we'll get something additional for MOH and BM) .... total of 1k... ugh... when you look at it that way it seems like a ton of $$$

If you are making your BMs get their hair and m/u done, then I'd rather that be paid for. If you're ok with them doing their own hair and m/u then you should give them a gift.

The first (out of 2) wedding I was in, my best friend gave us all COACH bags - she got them at over 50% discount, so it's not the expensive-ness of the gift that I like but rather, every time I use that bag - which is now over 5 years old - I think of her wedding, the rehearsal dinner when we got the bags, and all the great memories associated with it. I'll have that bag forever, so that's why I like BM gifts! ![]()

I'd rather have the hair and makeup paid for since it just seems like so much money (the main reason I've chosen to do my own hair and makeup as a bride)!

I would NOT want day of jewelry. Its a beautiful gesture but I probably would never wear it again. So I would say you buy that for them if YOU want them to wear the same stuff.
I would say the pampering! Let the girls know that their gift is going to be you paying for the makeup and hair. You can always get them a little something (flip flops for the day...something small and cute as a little something)

I def agree with you on the jewelry... just bc everyone has their individual tastes... and I wouldnt want to get someone something that they wont use again... which is the reason why I'm even asking this question in the first place LOL
I wanted everyone's jewelry to match so I got very inexpensive things for them at Tri County as a small PART of their gift. I have 10 girls with very different taste so I was not going to find something for everyone. I was not going to waste a ton of money on something people may never wear again. I am going to tell them if they don't like it they can change after pictures. The hair/make-up is a good idea, I know all of my girls did not want to go to the same place to I didnt do that.
On a similar note I think FH is leaning towards paying for his GM's tuxes as their gift too! He hasnt gotten them anything yet and I think they would appreciate it!

I would rather have a gift personally. I am a sentimental person and I feel like hair and makeup washes away after a day but a gift is something you can cherish for a long time but that is just me! ![]()
