As if yesterday wasn't bad enough: Our trip to the ER today

Tonight Luke had to go the the emergency room. I was at my brother's house with him and he & my niece were playing in her room and she had her comforter on the floor. They were rawling under it, rolling around in it, diving into it. Lukie jumped into it but jumped too far and hit his head on the side of her platform bed where the drawer is. It sounded like it really hurt and I grabbed him and when I turned him over, he had a HUGE gash in his forehead. I mean HUGE. It was bleeding so much, it was unbelieveable. So I hysterically yell for my brother, there's total mayhem with my 3 yo niece and 16 month old nephew underfoot too not knowing what was going on but I said to my brother that he had to go to the ER. Which is where he went. He needed 16 stitches, this thing was about 1- 1 1/2 inch wide and deep to the skull, it was horrible. He cried of course in the beginning and then on and off and then of course when they strapped him to this board so he couldnt move while they did the stitches but he is such a little trooper. Really really amazing. My bro & I were at the hospital with Luke for about 3 1/2 hours, I waited for the plastic surgeon to come to do the stitches vs a regular ER doctor. It was MidIsland hospital BTW, in Bethpage and they were wonderful. My DH was at work but he came home, which I was so glad about.

I hope this was it for awhile, after the last 2 days, I think Lukie and I deserve a break. I'm not feeling like a bad Mommy or anything, this was a total freak accident but it just kills you as a Mom to see your child hurt. I hope I NEVER see it again in his life.

There was another little boy there (15 months) whose parents brought him in because they felt a lump on his neck and apparently the ER doctors felt there was good cause for concern that it might be something very serious, he had other symptoms of it being something bad and he was getting transferred to Winthrop Pediatric Unit when we left. As much as what happened with Luke was horrible for us, I can't imagine what these poor parents are going through. I felt so bad, the Mom's face was so red and raw from crying. Please say a prayer for that little boy that he is OK.

I'm off to bed, I need a good night's sleep.

Oh my--- what a couple of days you have had! Arent the toddler years fun !! We have not had Aidan to the ER yet -- ( and I stress yet ) ...but today we managed to slam the door on his poor little fingers. He was screaming -- but he was OK ... They just get into everything! Hang in there.... It has to get better ! Kiss that little boy for me! to you !!!!

Sorry to hear about all these things happening, at least he is okay for the most part. It is really hard watching your kid hurt, kayla had 2 nasty gashy's and I cried my eyes out as well.

Kids can make you nuts sometimes.

JA does that all the time, the under-the-blanket thing, Just when you think theyre safe under a soft blanket and cant get hurt...

The head is the worst place because it bleeds so much and if they hit the right way(as poor Lukie did) it can cause quite the gash!!!

Not to be silly, b/c I KNOW this is very serious...but I had to chuckle at Jenn's post regarding Lukie needing a crash helmet....did I ever mention that my uncle calls Paul 'Crash' as his nickname? These boys of ours sure are rambuncious!!

Could we maybe get discount pricing on just padding their bedrooms with foam for the next 10 years, right?
