Asking for a raise....
Need advice on how to do it! I'm with my current employer for over 3 years - no raise. My job responsibilities have greatly increase.A co-worker (a manager) saw a salary list for everyone and came to me and told me I should ask for a raise (at least another $15,000). Problem is they recently laid people off - so I don't want to get on the radar screen but if I don't ask I don't get. P.S. About 9 months ago they decreased everyone's salary by 10%. But they have hired and given raises to others...
Any guidance, advice things to be prepared to say - would be great!
Thanks!

Re: Asking for a raise....
I was in this same situation. 2 years and no raise. My company had layoffs as well, but of course you hear through the grapevine that people were getting raises.
I just bit the bullet went in to my supervisor and plead my case. I was told that things were tight and there was a freeze. I waited another 6 months and approached it again. I was told the same story.
This was risky, but I made it known how overworked I was and unhappy due to not getting a raise. I got in so much trouble because a mistake was made that was out of my control. Though I got reprimanded it brought to their attention how overworked and underpaid I was, I even said it again.
Well I finally have a raise- be persistent and plead your case.

Re: Asking for a raise....
I realize that this is not going to be easy. I'm really sick over it - but if I don't ask I won't get. The only other thing that's given me courage is that another manager saw my salary and came to me and said you need a raise for the amount of work that you do.My previous manager had asked the COO about 4 months ago and he said to wait until the end of the quarter but then my manager resigned.
The dept. is short staff (just me and the VP)....
