I don't have a sister. I have a lot of close girl friends, but wouldn't find it fair to ask any of them to be my MOH (nor could I chooe). I have asked the friends to be bridesmaids, and of course they're all excited. I'm still undecided on what to do about MOH... My sister-in-law asked me to be MOH when she married my brother, and her sister as matron. I was thinking of asking her to be my matron. However, we are not so close in age and aren't that close. My groom's sister and I are now becoming friends. I'm thinking of following in the tradition of my sister-in-law and asking her to be my MOH. I am just worried that she'll feel a lot of pressure to be MOH rather than just a bridesmaid. What's the best way to approach her about it?

Re: Asking groom's sister to be MOH
Thanks, well that's why I'm having so much trouble with this. I don't have a sister and I dont have a best friend who's like my sister, rather a bunch of close friends. My oldest friend is not the type who would want to be a MOH, which is why she's a bridesmaid. I was thinking since I have time, waiting a few months before asking her. I just dont want her to find out I already asked my friends, which she probably wont find out.
I don't have a sister either so I just chose one of my closest friends...

It seems that you have some time, so I think you should wait and feel out the situation a little bit better. Why not re evaluate sometime around August? See whose the most into the wedding, see who you are getting closer with.
And honestly, I am sure all the girls are honored to be Bridesmaids, and no one is going to get mad that they are a Bridesmaid instead of a Maid of Honor. Pick who you're closest with and who you think you will still be closest with at the time of the wedding.

Re: Asking groom's sister to be MOH
I think it's a wonderful idea to ask your FSIL to be your MOH, but I would do as the previous poster suggested and wait to ask her once you've gotten to know each other a little better.
My FSIL is my only BM (my best friend is my MOH) -- I'm really proud to have her as my bridal party! I'm not having her do anything for the wedding other than to get the same dress as my MOH and to be there and have fun, though, so maybe it's easier when you know there's no pressure to do anything else.
I'm sure you'll make the right decision in time, and it's good you're thinking about planning ahead! Don't agonize over it yet -- you'll make the right choice and once you do, it'll feel just right.

Re: Asking groom's sister to be MOH
Thanks everyone. I'm definitely not asking a friend (I guess I didn't fully explain that before). I think I'll wait a few months before asking. I spoke with a friend tonight who said they went to a few weddings where the bride asked the groom's sister and it was really nice. That made me feel better.

Re: Asking groom's sister to be MOH
Honestly, it's going to be a lot for her only for these reasons. The MOH is going to have to be in contact with your mom and all of your girls in the bridal party. How easy do you think it will be for her to voice her opinion to your mom and your friends being that you aren't close with her? It seems like you are trying to force closeness because you don't have another option. It is a nice gesture but i would wait things out. You still have a lot of time before your wedding and you don't want to make a rash decision and regret it later.
