Asking people to do the readings

Asking people to do the readings

Have any of you been turned down when you've asked someone to do the ceremony reading? I know people can suffer terrible stage fright but I was so sad that FSIL passed and my uncle is undecided about doing it. Just curious if this is a common occurrence of if I'm just dealing with difficult people! Thanks!

I haven't asked anyone to do our readings yet, I hope that goes well.

The thing that had bothered me is that we are having a small wedding (80 ppl - family and close friends) so no need for them to feel stage fright! FSIL says she felt honored to be asked but she's too scared. And my uncle, the BIG businessman is also antsy about speaking in front of the crowd! I was just surprised. I have the public speaking fear as well, but if someone asked me to read, I'd do it gladly. The readings aren't even anything difficult - they are love poems! Just looking for some more feedback -thanks!

I am asking my BIL & FH is asking his cousin (he is close with). Im sure we both will have no problems. But if so i have back-ups. I understand for some its difficult to get up there. Im not a big fan of doing that stuff either. LOL

Re: Asking people to do the readings

Some people don't want to read in front of people and that's understandable. I think if someone asked me I would probably say no because I hate doing presentations and stuff. I haven't asked people yet but I know how I am with the stage fright thing so if someone said no, I'd understand.

Re: Asking people to do the readings

We haven't asked yet. The problem for us is we were hoping to involve our godparents in some way. Originally we were hoping for them to bring up the bread and wine to the altar but because of our date, we can only have a ceremony and not a full Mass. (Aug. 15 is Feast of Assumption).

So, then we were thinking of asking our godparents to do readings. The problem is we need 2 readers and we have 4 godparents. FH's godparents are a married couple, mine are not (mom's sis, dad's bro). FH said his godparents would likely be more than happy to do it for us. But I don't want my godparents to be left out. Any suggestions?
