I would ask them asap this way it givesthem time to save up for the BM dress and any other BP expenses.

I did not. I just asked. But I asked them in person. But I def love the idea of little cards or something, I just could not wait hehehehehe.

I got engaged in May and I asked them August but you can ask them at any point in time.

well i am only having our sisters and my best friend - so they all knew before i even had to ask them! ![]()
but at our engagement party i made up bags for each of them - my sister got a will you be my maid of honor card, FH's sister got a will you be my matron of honor card, and my friend got a will you be my bridesmaid card - and i gave each of them a bridesmaid picture book - and wrote something special for each of them inside.....

yep, i totally agree, the more time you can give your girls to budget and plan the better
