Asking the Church

Asking the Church

If you are getting married in a church, how did you ask the officiant?

My FH and I booked our reception hall first and now have been attending the church my parents got married in. We have been going for 3 weeks now. I'm going to call the church tomorrow and ask if we can get married there. I hope they say yes.

I didn't ask - I went in and met with one of the priests. It costs $700 - its not like they are doing me any favors!

my great uncle is a priest at another church, so he is going to do my wedding at my church, so I really didnt care which priest it was assigned to...

i made an appt with the pastor of my church and did it that way. But i'm going to have so many priests at my wedding that it's going to be amusing.

We just called and made an appointment to talk to the priest. I wouldn't suggest telling him that you already booked the hall. Just tell him the day you want.

Just call the rectory of the church and tell them you want to make an appt with the pastor regarding your wedding....they will either have the deacon or priest call you back...

it should be fine!!!

We called the rectory and made an appointment. I requested to speak with the priest I wanted. He was available for our appt. and we made sure he would be officiating our wedding.

I didnt ask the priest, I called the rectory and just asked to book my wedding there. My mother goes religiously every week and I went to grammar school there for years so they were fine with it

I made an appointment to meet with the priest, it cost $600 so I don't see them having a problem marrying you.

Re: Asking the Church

We called the rectory and requested the priest that we wanted. We then caught up with him one Sunday after Mass because we hadn't heard from him in awhile. (Priests are extremely busy people: things like funerals, hospital visits, etc. take precedence sometimes)We solidified a time to meet and sat down to talk, set the date, etc. Good luck... and I hope that there isn't a wedding already scheuled on the same day you want to have it. Since you booked your hall, you would then have to go to another church.

It cost $450.00 at my church. MORE than worth it in my opinion... and the Church benefits from your donation.

GOOD LUCK!

Yes, that is typical for Catholic Churches. I am a member of the church where I am getting married. It doesn't bother me to pay the money it is more than worth it to me... and they benefit, so why not?? Also, a lot of that money goes towards paying the church musicians who play at the wedding. PLus, most parishoners tithe (give money) to the church on Sundays, so what not give an extra special gift on your wedding day? JMO....

I completely agree and as regular church goers we tithe every sunday but i would rather give a gift that i feel is right for me. not an agreed upon amount that is required. FH and I plan of giving a larger donation after the wedding but i guess it doesnt bother me bc it is on our terms. and that way we are giving with a greatful heart rather than out of obligation. we are also having the church organist play and we have to pay $100 for that.......i guess that goes right to him.

An agreed upon donation is a fee. That is my only problem with it. I have no problem paying the money but lets call it what it is...a fee. A donation is something that can be afforded. We can afford it but say we could not...would we not be able to get married because there is a '500 donation?' I know I am nit-picking but terminology is funny in this situation.

If you cant afford the 'donation' they will still marry you, but don't expect to have a reception at $150 per person and expect the church to believe you don't have the money to give the church. I do agree with you that it should be voluntary, but what can you do.
