ASTORIA - hair/makeup

I need to have my hair and makeup done on Memorial Day Weekend (Sunday) for a wedding.

Anyone know some place in Astoria that does really great makeup and hair (or at least makeup)?

have you tried She goes to your head on Steinway? -- I'm not sure if they're open on Sundays. I've had my hair done there but not makeup. They did makeup for my aunt for her wedding day and they did a nice job.

Also, Saloon on 30th Ave is open on Sundays, not sure how they do makeup -- I hear they're pricey also but they book sunday appointments.

I'm not sure their exact addresses but you can google both of them.

Thanks Maggie - I live nearby both of those places. I just didn't know if they did makeup. I will give she goes to your head a call - if your aunt picked them for wedding makeup they must be good!

Hi Kristina!
I'm an astoria girl here, and I've been really disappointed with Saloon of late; their service and technique is very inconsistent. Joe's great, but I don't believe he works on Sunday? I booked them for my wedding, and walked out in tears, thank God I have a hair wizard friend...

I CAN recommend Touch of beauty though, (they're on 30-th avenue between Steinway and 38th street, just a few steps past the ministar restaurant, on 30th ave).
I go to Julia, she is AMAZZZZING, she did my hair and makeup for my epix, pics in my album, and she's great, and they are VERRRRRY affordable,

you should walk by, Julia is an older woman with a funky blond 'do, she's not a 'warm and fuzzy' type but she does the BEST hair & makeup in astoria, and she won't overcharge you!!!

that's good to know about Saloon, I can't believe they ruined ur wedding day hair OMG!!! I've never been there but heard they were pretty good--I'm making a note to stay clear now

Haha yeah, the girl that was doing it was terrible, and wasn't listening. Her older colleague took over, and same thing, not getting it.
One of the 'assistants' - the ragamuffin who kind of looks like Ursula the Sea Witch stood at the desk shooting my sister and I dirty looks. It was awful, i won't go back!!!!

And I've been going there on & off for 20 years!!!!

I've gotten my hair and make-up done by Nycki at SPAce Salon right of of Ditmars Blvd. I especially love the way she does my make-up.

i love friends salon, i go for hair though but maybe see if they have pics of make up. When it comes to astoria for make up im iffy. In bayside though there is christies & co which is good.

I agree with SPAce for makeup although Ive never been there.

They also might do makeup at the Body Spa (or Body Shop). Its on 23rd Avenue and 41st Street.

friends hair design on 31st and ditmars. all guys and all sooo talented and modern. for hair. they do great curls ($40) its a blowout with curlers in your hair. (not a curling iron) and they come out like jessica simpson curls/.
