Forutnoff just informed me that part of my everyday pattern (I registered for 3 different V&B patterns that were shown/displayed together at Fortunoff to make a mix and match deal) is being discontinued. Which means not only that if I break a plate a year from now I won't be able to replace it, but that not having the other 1/3 of my mix and match thingie messes the whole thing up. ON TOP OF THAT - I know for a fact that my shower invites went out recently (one of my friends in TX slipped and told me she got an invite although I don't know when it is). So I called FMIL and I heard a mild panic in her voice and she goes 'Take it off the registry TODAY! RIGHT NOW!' Meaning that people are going to be trying to buy crap that doesn't exist.
I'm so frickin' annoyed because it took us a long time to find a pattern we could all live with AND my mother is making us palcemats to match those patterns! I guess it's back to the drawing board....

I'm so sorry to hear your news. What a pain it must be for you to choose new dishes now. Which patterns did you register for b/c two of cousins registered for villeroy and Bock as well.....just curious, so I can give them a heads up.
Good luck!

Ok first..breathe. Fortunoff will carry this until the pattern is out of stock. So odds are, people will be able to get it.
Can you stock up on this pattern? Get a few extra place settings? Also, there is a site called replacements.com that you will most definitely be able to replace broken plates with..if not complete your collection. They carry tons of discontinued patterns.
Ebay is also an amazing source of discontinued china, my sister just completed hers that was discontinued 9 years ago!

There is also a villeroy & Boch outlet you might be able to complete your pattern or get some extra place settings in case of breakage before they run out as well. Mistyeyed is right though - you can always get your plates later thru replacements.com

Well, FH hated it anyway. He was always opposed to it, and frankly, the mix and match thing was very confusing the way it read on the registry. He almost did a cartwheel when I told him the news. So back to Square One.

i'm sorry that really stinks. did fortunoff recommend any patterns that are similar to help you out? and i agree that you could probably stick with it and still get everything you need from other sources. good luck!

Sorry to hear this Rachel! If it makes you feel better, I'm so **** confused with my registry, I've given up for a while!!!

Rachel, I totally understand how you feel. You would think that Fortunoff at least would have some advance notice and they would warn brides about patterns that may be discontinued. I got all my table linens for my shower except for the napkins. When I went to buy them afterwards, I found out that the pattern was discointued. Now I have a very expensive table cloth, runner and napking rings without the napkins to match!

I'm surprised at Fortunoff's too- they did tell me everything that would be discontinued (although I did not register for china there)
Did you register any place else? BB&B has the same everyday plates if you still wanted to leave them on, and add a few from there?
