At what point did you start baby shopping??

For those who didn't have a baby shower (which I've asked my family not to do for me). When did you start buying stuff for the baby - clothes, toys, etc.
At 4 months it's still soon for me, but I'm so tempted - everything is so cute!!! I get all teary eyed when I see baby things in stores!!

Re: At what point did you start baby shopping??

I'm not BTDT mom...but I will give you advice from my mom...I'd wait a little until you know more about the babies size...I was such a big baby that I barely fit into newborn clothes and that by 3 months I was wearing 12 month clothes....

on the otherhand...I bought a variety of different sizes for a friend and the baby was 6 weeks premature...and the little boy is going to need a while to get into the 12 month jeans I bought him...

Re: At what point did you start baby shopping??

I would begin at 5-6 months. It also depends on how much you need and your financial situation. If you have a lump sum that you can spend then you can wait until 7 months and go nuts in one weekend. But many people need to spread out their spending over a few months. Also, a crib will take a few weeks to arrive in many cases.

Re: At what point did you start baby shopping??

I am 5 months and haven't bought a THING.

I don't know why...it is so unlike me to put something off! I ALMOST bought a little sleeper..but I stood there thinking ' I cannot believe I am buying an outfit for my own baby' and got freaked out and put it down!

Hopefully soon I will come around!!!!

Re: At what point did you start baby shopping??

Demetra .... can't believe its already 4 months!!! Hope you're feeling well these days! Do you think you'll want to find out what you're having?

We were just having this conversation the other day with friends who have 2 older children & their advice to us was not to purchase any outfits for immediate use b/c people give you a ton of things right away. As far as clothes go, since you're not having a shower, maybe have a few of the basics ready. But I think this might be hard also since you won't know how big the baby will be until he/she is born. My gf's baby was born at 9 1/2 lbs & was out of 0-3 months almost immediately! As far as the other stuff, I would wait until later .... maybe at 6 or 7 months.

I have not bought much at this point, other than ordered furniture ... which can take up to 12 weeks to come in depending on what company you order from. I'm actually going to go to BRU today to start my registry. I'm so behind right now, but its honestly the first chance I'm getting.
