When did you finally get rid of your old photos/letters/etc from your ex-boyfriends?
I have the world's worst memory so I keep a lot of things.. they're all stored in a little box and it's not like I take them out and look at them every day. But since I'm moving in with FH now I feel like it's weird to bring them all with me.
Toss them or keep them?
Moving Day in 2 days!!
ETA: Also, when you make a post like this it's probably not a good idea to accidentally leave it up on the computer screen when FH goes to use the computer.
Luckily he just laughed. I'm a moron.

I tossed everything a while ago. I kept it in the beginning of our relationship, just because I keep EVERYTHING! But it's the past, let it rest... That was my opinion for myself.

Re: At what point do you get rid of...
I think it depends on your previous relationships. When my grandmother passed away, we found tons of old love letters she had received from her 1st husband (he passed away very young) and a 'suitor' she had before meeting her 2nd husband. It was really wonderful reading all of the letters and knowing how loved she was. She was apparently a very beautiful woman who had to fend the men off! But reading the letters from her 1st husband, who is also my dad's dad, let us learn a lot about her.
In other words, get rid of the meaningless stuff, but if there's anything very special to you, I think it's ok to hold onto it.

I started going through things and I have a whole pile that I am just going to leave at my moms. No reason to take it with me but I don't know I guess it just feels weird to throw it all away. I guess it would be best to do it but it's weird.

i know I have tons of old stuff, so does FH..(he was engaged when he was very young so has cards, pictures plus he had a gf for 6 yrs before me)..
I'm trying to start slowly getting rid of stuff before I officially 'move in' with FH. or at least get all my stuff there...

Re: At what point do you get rid of...
If I was in your situation where I actually had physical letters, things, etc. (not just emotional scarring), I would probably keep them, but leave them in my old room in a drawer and not bring them with me. It's still a part of your life and probably made you into who you are today, as all experiences do. That's just my opinion, I would never want to throw out something that was a part of my life, good, bad, or indifferent.

Re: At what point do you get rid of...
When FH and I first started dating, the only thing he had left from an ex was a scrapbook that one girl made him. He kept it on a bookcase and didn't even remember it was there. One day I came across it and, for no good reason, he threw it out right away. We hadn't even been dating a month and I wasn't sure why he was ready to give it up yet. I, on the other hand, kept my 'ex' box until we moved in together. At that point, I felt I didn't need those memories in our new home and our life.
ETA: good luck with moving and have fun!

Re: At what point do you get rid of...
I may be the oddball here, but there are lots of things I've kept. I was never a 'save every card, note and letter' type of girl, but I've definitely kept photos and some cards.
Maybe it's because FH and I are older, but these are things from my life that have made me who I am and they don't take away from mine and FH's relationship. If anything, they have added to our relationship because they've made me realize how wonderful FH is and that he was the one I was waiting for all along. While I wouldn't want to have to see pictures of FH's former gfs hanging on the wall, I know that he has lived a life before me that has made him the wonderful man is he today. But that's just me.
However, if you feel like you want to totally start anew and that you are ready to pack away your past, then don't take them. You have to do what makes you (and him) feel comfortable.

I kept alot of mine...kinda for reasons of nostalgia. I threw them in a box and like to read them from time to time it's almost like you go back to that time in your life.
You can always stash them at your parents house. My mom has a box of pics of me and my HS ex that I didnt want to throw out because I had a bunch of prom pics in.

ITA!!! I still have all the pictures of my ex boyfriends and I think FH still has pictures of his ex's. I think pictures are the one thing that people should never throw away. But like the OP said its totally up to you guys and you have to do what makes you feel comfortable!

Re: At what point do you get rid of...
I usually keep things and forget I keep them.. But when it comes to ex-boyfriends.. I trash even everything within a reasonable 1 - 3 months after.. LOL
