When you get to the reception hall that day OR after the wedding is over (at the end of the night)? I was talking to a friend who was married 2 years ago and she said to do it before the reception starts. But, I was thinking, you tip according to service and frankly, god-forbid it's not that great. Or what if the tip you give (that you think it appropriate) before the wedding starts, is not what they were expecting to get and they don't give you the best of service. Being a waitress for 10yrs, I guess I am stressing a bit about the tipping situation Can you tell? Any opinions are welcome

Re: At what time do you tip?
That's a good question...I'd also like to know when.

Re: At what time do you tip?
I am going to tip at the end of the night for all the reasons you stated. I don't want to tip them before hand, because if they think it is a bad tip it might show in the service I get. I am going to put someone in charge of handing out the envelopes at the end of the night and If I feel someone deserves less or more I will be able to change what is in their envelope.
A tip for anything is based on service. If you get lousy service, they get a lousy tip and vice versa. I would never tip my waiter/waitress at the beginning of the meal in a restaurant, because I don't know what kind of service I'm going to get. So I plan on tipping everyone at the end, which I think is pretty much standard.

I would say at the end... because what if they don't do a great job... then what? Also if they think you didn't tip them enough, they have the whole night now to ruin it for you... do it at the END! (that goes for everyone...limo, DJ,bridal attendant, ect)

Re: At what time do you tip?
We tipped at the end. Tipping is for exceptional service provided. I want to say we increased some of the tips at the end of the night b/c we were so pleased with how well everyone performed.

we tipped everyone at the end of the evening or if their services didn't last that long, at the end of their services.

Re: At what time do you tip?
I was told by some friends who are already married to have the envelopes ready and write on the front who they are for (d.j, photographer etc.) and don't seal the envelopes. That way if money needs to be taken out or added the vendor won't know. I was also told to tip at the end of the night and to give the money to someone VERY responsible (parent) so it doesn't get lost. I know that this is the Best mans job but if he has a few drinks it could get lost.

Ladies... As far as the what time...you are suppossed to tip before the receoptin begins... T.I.P.S. stands for to insure proper service...there for you tip before and they make sure EVERYTHING is perfect! Especially the Maitre D!! We will be tipping before not after! Just something we always follow except in restaurants...lol.... But thats what i have been told by many

' Tips should be given just before your vendor leaves. That way you can judge how much to give, according to the job they did for you. '

Re: At what time do you tip?
I think it depends on who you are tipping and what service they are doing for you. For most of our vendors we did tip at the end of the night but we did tip the bartenders at the wedding before hand. Why I do not know lol but I think it put them in a better frame of mind and they were excellent all night : ).
I also know alot of my guests tipped the waiters in the beginning of the night so they would get extra special service with drinks and such.

Re: At what time do you tip?
I heard this suggestion on the radio and my FSIL said he agrees it's a good idea. Give HALF of the tip at the beginning of the night to the maitre 'd, and tell him he will get at least that much more at the end of the night if everything is perfect.
