FI and I have been on it for a month and 1/2. He lost 25 pounds and i lost 10. That is all I wanted to lose anyway.

But I am at the point now, where I am going to start excerciing and adding carbs back into my diet.

Good Luck.

Re: Atkins

How do you keep yourself from being hungry without the carbs? Do you load up on more veggies?

Re: Atkins

NovemberSue, I've done Atkins for 7 months. The first 3 days were tough for me, always hungry, but once your body stops 'craving' the carbs it balances out. FH said first full week was hard for him.

The Atkins power bars have really help us because it seems like you are having a chocolate coated treat!!! They are also high in Fiber which is filling.

Re: Atkins

Do you eat more veggies?
I know Atkins is about eating protein and cutting out your carbs.
Protein isn't very filling so I would imagine that you would eat a little more veggies.
I put on several pounds and would like to start eating better to shed the extra weight.

Where do you get the chocalate bars? Health food stores? I haven't seen them. What are they called?

Re: Atkins

A typical day for me:

breakfast: cottage cheese and berries or Low-carb power bar

lunch: either salad with green veggies, mushrooms, and cheeses with a low-carb dressing usually blue-cheese, ranches, and vinagrettes are low in sugars or Low-carb power bar

pre-workout snack: nuts or cheese

dinner: various meats and steamed or grilled veggies

I use the atkins website www.atkinscenter.com to look at the carb count for salad and dinner veggies and fruits

Low-carb Power bars and candies: you can find at Trader Joes, GNC, most durg stores in the diet or diabetic section, at the Atkins store- address on the website, or buy them online at the website.

Be careful eating too much of low-carb candies: then sugar alternatives can give a gassy or laxative effect if you eat to many! But one power bar has 'never' done that to me...

Good luck!

Re: Atkins

Thanks. I usually eat egg whites for breakfast with either a piece of american cheese or with some turkey breast. For lunch I will probably have tuna.
Is whole wheat bread ok or should I skip the bread all together? Dinner will probably be steak and veggies.

Re: Atkins

I would start reading the labels on everything to look at the carb count. Subtract fiber and sugar alcohols from the total carb count to get the NEt Effective Carbs. The initial Atkins phase is to keep carbs less than 20 grams per day. Most bread max this out right away.

If I have bread I try to stick with the ones label 'low-carb' you can find bread that only has 2.5 grams of carbs per serving. I get mine at Whole Foods grocery.

Low-carb tortillas are getting easier to find, I think most chain grocery stores carry them. The whole-wheat low carb tortilla is good for tuna wraps, fajitas, etc.

MY FMIL lost over 50 lbs on low-carb and she has 1 slice of low-carb bread everyday.

Re: Atkins

I want to try to eat a little better. I want to lose about 8 pounds (mostly around my hips & thighs.)

Re: Atkins

NovemberSue, it sounds like you have a really great start on a good diet already! With just a couple small changes 8lbs should just melt off. 2 weeks on 'hard-core' Atkins could easily get ride of 8-10 lbs. Plus, the only thing outside of the initial atkins that you mentioned was the bread.

I find this to be the easiest diet to stick with after 3 days I really was not hungry at all. Plus, Low-carb products are becoming so much easier to find there are a lot of options.

Good luck!

Re: Atkins

Thanks. I will check out their website. I want to try to eat better although I don't want to be too strict.
I used to work out several days a week and was able to eat whatever I wanted. Unfortunately I stopped working out for several months and gained weight a little too easily. Now I want to see results quickly so I will combine diet with my workouts and hope to be able to tell you my accomplishments soon.
