The LAST is a basic knowledge test, mostly reading comprehension passages. The ATS-W is classroom knowledge. They are not hard, although I did significantly better on the ATS-W.

When you register, you can get the book from NYS that has practice q's. There are also practice exam books at Barnes & Noble or Amazon.com
The LAST I don't think you can really study for. It's basically a little information about a lot of different topics.
I just posted on another thread. I was in one of the very first groups to take these particular state exams. At the time there were no study guides so we took them cold (about 10 years ago or so - probably more). They were not hard to me and I passed them all on the first shot. Take your time and when you have a test with an essay, take a look at the essay question first (then go back to the beginning) so you can prepare and pace yourself so you have enough time to do the test. I personally was the first one done in the room. I hate sitting. I am sure you will do very well.
I took the LAST and I ahven't gotten arounf to the ATS-W yet because I have to study some ed psych since I didn't do a teaching program in college. The LAST is incredibly easy. it's basically common sense and common knowledge on a broad range of topics. Basically anyone can pass it. I've been told don't take them on the same day and I'm glad I followed that advice. Even though the LAST was easy, by the end I was TIRED! I had bought 2 study guides (but you won't need them!) and the barrons one was really bad, it had much much harderquestions and didn't really reflect the exam content. The Kaplan book was a lot better.

How do I register for these exams...I have been going on web site after web site...am I missing something??

I took the LAST, ATS-W, and CST in Elementary Education. I purchased a few different types of review books and downloaded the reviews on the registration site. For the CST, I wouldn't bother buying the study guides... I looked over the questions that you can download and didn't get to use the study guide, but I passed anyway. For the ATS-W and CST, you might want to go over some of the common terms and theories from your education classes. Good luck!
