They blocked off ten rooms and they are good at the discounted rate up until a month prior to the wedding.
The problem??? They will only block off more rooms after the ten fill up. And you know how people procrastinate and don't book until the last minute. I was thinking about sending out save-the-dates in January with the hotel info included.
Worst case scenario my mother said she would put all ten rooms on her credit card and do it that way...
What do you think?
Any advice is appreciated.
P.S. The only reason I am a little nervous is because it is a holiday weekend and I am afraid once the ten book up there will be no more rooms left.

Same with me. But when I sent out my STD's I didn't have the block yet. I plan on putting a small homemade insert in my holiday cards.

I too blocked off rooms and have them at the discounted rate up until 1 month prior to the wedding BUT I was able to block off 30 rooms.. did they say why only 10 rooms?
I would send Save the Dates just to be on the safe side and this way hopefully they will get booked.. if your mom feels without a doubt that 10 rooms would be filled and she feels comfortable and confident with putting those 10 rooms on her credit card then do that.. I would just be nervous that she would get stuck paying for 10 rooms if people wouldn't book... JMO.. I would definitely go with a Save the Date Card and maybe put a month earlier on the reserve by date..

I think they only blocked off 30 because of the holiday??? I asked and they said that was just the way they did room blocks.

we are sending out save the dates with hotel information saying that rooms rates are only guarenteed until March 24, 2004 after that date then guests are on their own (not in that wording though).
I believe the places we booked told us that once the 10 rooms are filled they automatically block 10 more etc...

No I was able to block all the rooms at once.
One hotel did a thing where the discount only applied after the 10th room was blocked, and another is doing the same only with after 5 rooms are blocked.
I don't know what else to tell you other than find more hotels?

I am not sure, But from my understanding, I have spoken with one hotel, I am planning to block some rooms this week. This is what they told me:
The minimum to block off is 10. You have to block off at least 10 in order for people to get a discounted rate. They will hold the rooms and the rate until 1 month before the wedding. 1 month before the wedding, if any rooms are left available they let them go. If someone happens to book a room 1 week before then they have to pay the regular rate.. I think this is the basic idea of most hotels. Or at least the ones i have spoken with.

that's the basic idea, according to the hotels that i spoke with. hopefully, people will know enough to book farther in advance since it's a holiday weekend! i sent out the hotel information with my save the dates just so everyone had the information. and if anyone chooses to wait until the last minute, there's really nothing i can do about it! i got them a discount, if they don't want to use it......

I'm sending out invites beginning of January. STD's don't pay at this point. Do I put an insert in invites? Or wait til people call asking about hotel?

we blocked 70 rooms and 50 are already filled and we got the honeymoon suite free for 2 nights.

We had to fill the ten rooms as a requirement and they are automatically adding rooms as they get used. We are getting married at an off time though so I guess it's not really a concern. We booked two different hotels, though and they both are doing the same thing.

Why not block off ten in your name, ten in FI name, ten in sister in laws name...you get the idea...
