when i was co-officiating at a wedding last week, i learned something very interesting.
if you are getting married in NJ and the bride lives in NJ, you have to get your marriage lic in the township where she lives.
if only the groom or neither live in NJ, then you have to go to the township of where you are getting married to get the marriage lic.
when the lic is signed, the officiant gives you a pink carbon copy and then 10 days after the wedding you have to get it to the township where you got it from.
very different from NY....

Re: attn: brides getting married in NJ
This is interesting. I was looking for this info. My sister and her fiance are NY residents but getting married in NJ.
I was trying to find documentation on where they need to get their license.

YEP! I had to find that out by calling. its a pain in the butt because you have to go to your town's health department or something like that -have info somewhere- and it has to be where the bride lives. If she lives in NY and groom lives in however, they need to apply for the lisence where she lives. Its really screwy.

Yes - we had to do this. We got married in the church in the town where I grew up in NJ, but we both live in NY now. We had to take a day off of work to go there with my dad (you need a witness) to fill out the license. Then my dad had to go back about 10 days later to pick it up. Then we had to give that license to the church the day of the rehearsal where my MOH and DH's BM also witnessed and signed it.
