Attn Ladies who addressed their own invites....

Did anyone print them yourself on the computer?

If so, was it a headache? I have about a week to get my invitations out and I have been fooling around with envelopes on the computer but I don't think I am doing it right.

Any helpful advice or websites would be appreciated.

Thanks

I used Word to do my envelopes. I just played around with different fonts until I found one I liked, and that looked good on the envelope. Then it took me about 2 hours to type.

I did my sister's B-list and I also did the envelopes for her shower. it takes some experimentation, but it's easy once you get it lined up, it's just type and go!

ETA: I used word. Don't be afraid to just move it up and down and all over until it looks good. it can be fristrating, but you'll get it. You have to print it to see how it's gonna look, don;t rely on the screen

I did my E party invites on the comp. I cut out a piece of paper the size of the envelopes, measured it and changed the margins. (or try to find an envelope or even card size in your settings about the size of the envelope)

If you print out a few on the paper then put it up to the envelope you can see how it will look.

I wouldn't do them all in one night, it gets tiring (SP) maybe do it in 2 or 3, unless you don't have that many.

Let me know if I confused you or helped or need more help.

Just in case you were not doing this, Word has Envelope Wizard when you click to make a new document. Then you can change the options for the size of the envelope. Depending on your printer, there should be marking for the size paper you want to use so you can align the paper.

I'm using clear address labels with a calligraphy font. Nice, quick and simple.

i used this in conjunction with importing an access database for my save-the-dates... i'm a little nerdy though

Doesnt Word have 'mail merge' or something to just import a database into?

Never tried it though.

I cut paper, played with font sizes, margins, etc. until I decided I was going to throw the computer out the window (and I live on the 14th floor!)

then I gave in and big clear labels and did it that way. But I REALLY didn't want to.

i am VERY particular so i didn't want to deal w/ the stress of doing them myself. the invitation place did them for me (choice of font and font color) and charged a very reasonable (IMO) price. turn around time was only a week.

Re: Attn Ladies who addressed their own invites....

My daughter did her STD's and I did her shower invitation envelopes. They all came out beautiful. Because we had the inner and outer envelopes for the wedding invitations, though, and she didn't have the extra time or the desire for more stress so close to the wedding, she decided to send those out to be done. However, when she did a couple from the B list herself they looked just as great.

Definitely cut lots of paper the same size and be ready to experiment a lot. As names get longer, they sometimes show up okay on the screen but the printer may throw part of the name on another line. Also, if anyone has a 4 line address (college students, for example) leave them for the end. You will have to change your settings and those get much harder. The best advice I can give you is test on scrap paper when in doubt and I ditto the advice not to do too many at one time and exhaust yourself. It's really okay to get them in the mail a few days later than you aim for than to make yourself crazy.

Good luck.

A friend of mine printed them out on clear labels, came out very nice. That's probably what I'm going to do as well.
