How does the process work? I call to make an appointment... do they have cakes/fillings available for me to taste? Can I pay for them to prepare a tasting for me?

I'm using Black Forest. The way he works is to prepare a sample 7 in. cake for you to take home with whatever flavors you want.
I've heard good things about Audrey's too though. I'd call both and schedule a tasting.

Are you talking about Audrey in the South Shore?
If so, we have a co-vworker that brings cake from there all the time. Not anymore though, since we are all watching our weight.
The cakes are delicious.
I don't know about Black Forest.

I had both!
I didnt eat the cake by Audreys but it was gorgeous and I heard it was goodl.
I did eat the cake by black forrest and it was amazing!

I got married at the Bourne and we used Black Forest. They were AMAZING! This was my cake.
i'm sure the other one is good lol but i'm partial to my audreys!!!!

My cake was from Black Forest, but this was NOT my experience when I had my appointment. My cake was included in my package, so maybe we were treated differently because it wasn't a 'sale'.
Anyway, I had an appointment (made well in advance as I came from the west coast) and met with the guy, I forget his name, but I think he was the owner. He spent half of our meeting yelling at his daughter who was working there. We looked through photos of cakes and picked one we liked. He was not all that accomodating. We got to taste NOTHING. I asked if we could taste something and he looked at me like I asked for his right arm and said he 'didn't have anything for us to taste'. He (seemingly begrudgingly) gave us 2 canoli to take home since we picked the canoli filling for our cake. They were also a little wierd about the flowers we wanted on the cake - we ended up having the florist do the flowers for the cake, but Black Forest was wierd about it.
My cake was not my top priority, but I was worried - this was my one vendor that I was worried about based on the bad vibe I got at our meeting and a couple of reviews on the boards (one bride got the wrong cake, someone else had other problems). I called to confirm a couple of weeks ahead (we had ordered the cake about 6 months ahead of time and I was parnoid that they were going to 'forget' about me) and then again closer to the wedding.
End result: the cake looked fine and the 2 bites that I got tasted good.
If we did not have an included cake and were not having a mini-Vienesse and chocolate fountain, I would have been more concerned about the cake and I would have ordered it from my favorite bakery - Front Street bakery in RVC.

I only know about Audrey's - I loved working with them and I loved how my cake looked and tasted. I really think that they're just wonderful all around.
