August Honeymoon??

August Honeymoon??

Hi!
Just wondering if anyone had any ideas on where I should go on an August honeymoon.

We just went to Hawaii for my friends wedding and Tahiti, Bali and Bora Bora (all my favs) are way out of our price range. We are looking to spend about $3K-$4K for one week. Possibly an all inclusive place. We are just afraid of hurricanes. Everyone I know that had theirs during hurricane season had bad weather.

So any ideas?

These are the places I was thinking of....

Thanks in advance!!!!!

We are going to Aruba, staying at the Bucuti. It is mainly for honeymooners. Plus they are giving us a free dinner on the beach. A co-worker of mine just got back and she said it was amazing.

Bucuiti has an all inclusive and also the Occidental.

We're going to Costa Rica. Another place the travel agent recommended was Panama (I'd have loved to have gone there).

Hi!!
ARUBA is the place to go!
We have the same problem!!
We are getting marrie din Sept and looked ALLLLL over the place!
We are staying at the RIU in Aruba, it is ALL Inclusive!
We are going for 10 days and we got the biggest suite in the house...with 2 jaccuzzi's (one outside one inside)
it's costing us with flight 5K (all inclusive)
If thats a grand too much, id suggest a different room, but its totally feasable even for 10 days!
I have an amaziiiiing travel agent!
Email me ill help u!

Congrats!
lots of luck!

I read online that july and agust is like their 'mini summer' or something and that the rain stops for a while during these months

I'm so glad I found this post. This is a major concern for me as well. I looked into the Sandals resorts but I don't want to have to worry about insurance due to weather. I want to just go on a honeymoon with no worries.... I am going to show FH this post.

Through my research I have found the ABC Islands are the best since they are out of the hurricane path (Aruba, Barbados and Curacao).

I also like Turks& Caircos and St. Lucia but that can be risky in August b/c it is in a possible hurricane path.

Oh no! I hope not. I asked my travel agent that and she said it won't be rainy, but I wasn't convinced - it's hurricane season, and it's a rainforest....hmmm....unless it's not hurricane season in central america? UGG. I'm a little stressed about our decision but it's all set so I'm trying not to think about it.

We wanted to do side trips to Panama and Nicaragua, but Panama was also rainforest-y and Nicaragua bumped the price up by 3k.

Re: August Honeymoon??

I found this online regarding the weather in Costa Rica:

'Costa Rica lies wholly within the tropics yet boasts at least one dozen climatic zones and is markedly diverse in microclimates, which make generalizations and rainfall misleading.

Most regions on Costa Rica have two different seasons, the rainy season from May to November and the dry season from December to April. And the rainfall almost everywhere follows a predictable schedule. In general, high ridges are wet, and windward sides always the wettest.

Temperatures are more dictated by location and elevation than by season, range from tropical on the coastal to temperate in the interior highlands. Mean temperatures hover near 22°C (72°F) on the central plateau, average 27°C (82°F) at sea level on the Caribbean coast and 32°C (89°F) and the pacific lowlands, and fall steadily with elevation. Balmy San Jose and the Meseta Central have an average year-round temperature of 23°C (74°F). Everywhere in Costa Rica from March to May are the hottest months, with October and September not so far behind.

Generally, rains occur in the early afternoons in the highlands, midafternoons in the pacific lowlands, and late afternoons and night in the Atlantic lowlands. Dry season 'summer' on the Meseta Central and throughout the western regions is December through April. In Guanacaste, the dry season usually lingers slightly longer ; the north west coast which is the driest part of the country often has few rainy days even during wet season. On the Atlantic coast , the so called dry season occurs from January to April.

Even in the rainy season, days often start out warm and sunny, although temporales are not uncommon. In the highlands, rainy seasons usually means an hour or two of rain in the midafternoon. Still be prepared because 23 hours of a given day may be dry and pleasant ; during the 24th, the rain can come down with the force of a waterfall . The sudden onset of a relatively dry period called veranillo, sometimes occurs during July-August or August-September particularly along the pacific coast.'

Welll I will be in Costa Rica in August doing volunteer work for 2 weeks this year...so I will let you know

I hear that when it rains it does so very hard and then it clears up and is beautiful so even if it does I am sure you will have some good sunny days in there.

Costa RIca is a great HM idea. I would have doen it but since I am going there this year to volunteer I wanted to go somewhere with my FH that we had never been. You can get amazing deals there though!

My vote is for spain

I came from my HM a few weeks ago and spain was one of the 2 places we went to and seriously had the time of our lives.

I know alot of people are afraid of europe bc of the euro but spain is VERY affordable, i thought it was even more affordable than NY is. Our dinners never cost alot of money and we would get tons of things. Lunch was even less expensive and definitely spent alot less than we do when we go out to eat in NYC. We went to barcelona and it is breathtaking. All the architecture, the city is just gorgeous. Everybody was so friendly and its such a nice relaxing environment. Its funny bc it is a major city with tons of tourists too but everyone is so laid back, nobody is rushing to get anywhere, not even the locals. Everyone really enjoys life there. I definitely want to go back one day

My only concern with spain or europe is I have heard its like a zoo there during the summer. Tourist everywhere and just plain craziness. Was it like that??? I really want to go to spain but am thinkign about sticking with tropical setting so we can relax and not deal with all the madness... if you know what I mean.
