Ive been working on making my registry but I am curious how much people will spend on average. I know it varies greatly (based on grandparents vs. work friends ect.) but I just wanted to get an idea of the average amount. If you have not had your shower yet, how much do you spend on average for a gift?

Re: average amount spent on a shower gift?
It depends on the person I'm buying for...I'd spend up to $200 for someone I care about.
But then again, for my MOH's shower I believe I only spent $75, but that was because I made a whole 'baking' basket for her...some of her towels/potholders, a calphalon cake pan, a cake decorating kit, a box of cake mix and some frosting.

Re: average amount spent on a shower gift?
I agree with Ilana. It depends on the person, my finances, my relationship with the person, whether I go in with someone else, etc.
Generally my rule is base $100. Depending on how close I am with the person, I'll go up. I just went to a shower and spent almost $200 for a very close friend, but I also had some gift cards that I used for the gift so I only spent around $150 of my own money.
For your registry, just make sure you have a good variety of expensive and inexpensive items. Remember very close friends and family might buy you the more expensive stuff, or people may chip in together for expensive gifts.

Re: average amount spent on a shower gift?
While I was registering, I averaged 75 dollars pp. I assumed that the people that weren't as close to me would spend 50 and the ones that were close to me would spend 100 or more. I was right on target. Just about everything got bought off the registry...with a few big and small items to spare...which we will buy with the cash and gift cards we got.

Re: average amount spent on a shower gift?
it depends on a lot of things. Closeness to the person is a factor and for me how much I plan to give them for the wedding. A fclose friend recently married and I spend between 55-75 for the shper gift, but planned and did give them 450 for a wedding gift...
register for a wide rangeof stuff and let people decide what they want to spend or can spend, don't worry about it

Re: average amount spent on a shower gift?
It really depends on my relationship with the person...but on average I would spend $50-$75 for a close friend or my sister I would spend a lot more.

Re: average amount spent on a shower gift?
It depends on my relationship with the person...I just went to a shower for someone I don't know that well...we chipped in for something and spent about $40 each. For my sister the sky would be the limit though lol.

Re: average amount spent on a shower gift?
I think it depends a lot on how close you are to the person. I'd probably generally buy someone $40 lower end and $200 upper end.
I agree with the other posters - it really depends how close these people are to you. I'm sure most of the women on FH side will spend around 50 (I really don't know them well) and then my closer friends and family will spend more. This is why they suggest to put all different price ranges on your registry....

Re: average amount spent on a shower gift?
If I am not that close to them I would spend $75.00. For a close friend or family member I would spend around $200.

Re: average amount spent on a shower gift?
I guess I'm old school. Please don't think me so cheap, but I'm answering honestly here...
I would spend up to $50 on a shower gift and give up to $300 for a wedding gift.
I'm going to somehow put a shower gift limit of $20 on my own for the ladies' luncheon we're having. My mom would KILL me if people started bringing me huge shower gifts.
I'm hoping people will buy us things off our registry for our wedding presents.

Re: average amount spent on a shower gift?
i have spent about $75-100 for shower gifts. but at those same showers, i know the brides recieved gifts that were like $40. another factor is how much i will give at the wedding.
if it was a work colleague or aquantaince, i probably would only spend about $50 or so though.

Re: average amount spent on a shower gift?
If I could spin off the topic just slightly, I have a lot of small ticket items on my registry. If you had a set amount you wanted to spend, would you buy 2 small items or just look for one larger one?

I like to buy items that go together, so I wouldn't be opposed to buying a few small items for someone.

Re: average amount spent on a shower gift?
I spend around $50-70 unless it's someone extremely close (ie: my sister).
