Average monthly baby costs....
Just curious what the average montly costs are for a newborn. We are getting ready to buy a house and possibly a new car and want to take everything into consideration. We don't want to spread ourselves to thin. Thanks

Re: Average monthly baby costs....
I dont know the cost of formula but you will go through 300 diapers a month. Im pretty sure thats the average when they are a newborn. Ummm that would be about $60 or so in diapers and thats pretty much all you need monthly as long as you have clothes and gear.

Hmm I never realized we went through that many diapers! wow.Don't forget wipes, but they seem to last forever too. I got a case package of pampers brand at BJ's for around $12 before coupons. I think it lasted a month. However I have since discovered Walmart's Brand which is less expensive and comparable to Huggies wipes.
A large can of Nestle Good Start is $21, at 3 months it is lasting just under a week i think. (probably would last longer in the beginning but we were bf).

It depends on your lifestyle and what you deem 'necessary'. You can spend a ton of clothes, gear and other things.Daycare full-time will cost about $1000-$1300.
Diapers- I always use coupons and buy Pampers Swaddlers/Cruisers. You will use about 300 per month at first.
Breastfeeding- I know some people say 'it is free' but for me it was very costly. I had latching problems and spend $700 with a lacation consultant and $230 on a pump. It was worth every single penny IMO. And at this point, Iformula would have cost me a lot more but still it was a cost.
Formula- You can get free samples and lots of coupons. Depending on the type your child needs costs can vary. It can get very expensive if you need the super hypnoallegnic (sp?) stuff.

Wipes-$16.00/month
Enfamil Formula-$28 every 10 days-$84.00/month
Total-$132/month

Re: Average monthly baby costs....
One other thing that this cold fall weather has got me thinking about in terms of monthly baby costs....HEAT! It is so chilly! {Pre-baby DH and I kept the thermostat set at 63 degrees when we were at work and at night while sleeping. But between me being home with the baby during the day, and at night even with a sleeper and the Halo sleep sack on him I will definitely be keeping the heat up. So I consider that a monthly baby expense since we wouldn't do it if he weren't here.
I can imagine that first oil bill for the winter is gonna be a shock!
