Aviation themed engagement shoot

Hi all!

Well now that we *think* we picked a venue (west sayville mansion -- just waiting to see the new renovations before we book), we've been talking about engament photos and we want to do an aviation themed shoot since my FH is a pilot.

Anyone have a good location for us? We know about Cradle of Aviation (I wish it was outdoors) and the museum at Republic Airport (but they won't let us get too close to the planes). I'm totally stuck on what to do! All we really need is one really cool old plane that we can sit in to take pictures.

Any suggestions are welcome!

There is an old plain over by grumman that is outside near that popcorn building (forget the name of the street) but its right off south oyster bay rd in bethpage/hicksville. I think this is a great idea!! Good luck!

maybe one of the smaller airports would let you do more? gabreski/ the one in eastport/ i dont know any further west....

or i think they have something like dharma said at grumman in wading river too?

Hey! Sorry to hijack - but can you let me know if you find something that works. FH has been taking lessons and is about halfway to his pilot's license so I was trying to come up with something similar as well. I wasn't able to really find anything that fit - bc I feel like the Cradle of Aviation may have good plane photos, but not really a good location for non-plane photos, and we would want a mix. We ended up scheduling our shoot for 4/7 at just a regular park, but if you come up with something before then, can you let me know? Thanks!

Is your FH a commercial pilot? Mine would love to make a career out of flying eventually.

My FH has done it all lol He flew freight, taught flying lessons, and flew commerical before getting a job as a private pilot. He went to flight school right out of high school, so I'm not sure what it's like for someone who is taking independent lessons.

there is an airport in Farmingdale... maybe they would be willing to make an engagement shoot happen for you?!?

Or possibly look into privately owned planes on Long Island (all those rich people out east, SOMEONE has to own a plane), and maybe they'll let you like pay a small amount to 'use' their plane for a few hours? If FH is a pilot, maybe he knows someone?

The Interprid in NYC had a ton of airplanes and they are pretty call. I would call first

Can't really help with your question but what kind of renovations are they doing to West Sayville and when?

By May, the back half of the room will be all wood, and they'll have a patio surrounding the outside looking out at the bay (instead of just the one to the side).

I'm pretty sure they even have a museum of planes from back in the day. It's off of New Highway in Farmingdale!

The one in farmindale (at Republic) would be perfect, but so much of it is roped off that I'm not sure we could sit in them. It's worth a try though.
