Awkward moment

Awkward moment

I got stuck going to dinner with someone I know but BARELY talk to. During dinner he turns to me and says how he needs to get a new suit to wear to my wedding. HOLD UP!!! WAIT WHAT?! It was so awkward I had no idea what to say I just kind of moved from the convo and then later on he 'jokingly' asked if he was on my guest list and bc I was so caught of guard I was like 'I have no idea who is on the list bc it keeps changing every day'.

I don't know why people seem to think that bc I have known you for 10 years and we BARELY talk that they would be invited to my wedding. I am barely inviting people I talk to more often then that bc we have to many family members and obligated people to invite.

I had something similar happen to me! I have a friend who I'm friendly with but who I see maybe once or twice a year. We used to be closer, but when she didn't invite me to her engagement party or wedding, I realized that maybe we weren't as good of friends as I thought. I actually had friends that asked me why I wasn't at both events and I had to say I wasn't invited. Now, two years after the fact, I'm engaged. We gchat at work casually, but I never actually make plans to see her, go to dinner, etc. I told her I booked the band the other day, and she had the gall to say 'I can't wait to dance the night away'. Um, who said you're invited?!? I wasn't invited to yours and we're still friendly, so let's just keep it that way!

Ugh I hate that! This has happened to me and fh several time it is horribly awkward but at the same time I don't understand why people just always assume if they know about your wedding your invited. I guess these people never planned a wedding or know how expensive it is. We have the same issue that our family members are being cut cause we can't afford everyone. Worst is I had the controller of my company tell me I have to extend the invite to my bosses. Ummm I don't have to nothing...they may pay me to work but I don't get paid a lot and due to that we are having the kind of wedding we are having and finacially struggling the whole way. She told me this because a fellow employee did not invite them to his wedding and apparently they were very offended by that.

That was a good response! I have been at my new job for a yeast and people think they r getting invited! Why do u think that it's not like we hangout out side the office! I totally understand!

My SIL (brother's wife) assumed she was going to be IN my wedding because I was in hers three years ago. We're not that close, I barley tolerate you and that's only because you married my brother.
Other than that, I've actually had the opposite happen. Where people I would LOVE to invite, but just can't for $$ reasons have said they're bummed that we're not getting married in a church so they could at least see the ceremony. And then one friend was like, oh well i'll see pictures. I feel so bad I can't invite everyone. COME ON MEGA MILLIONS!!

We had the same thing happen! We're not inviting kids and my cousins wife goes 'I just bought a dress for Anna for your wedding. It was a little pricey but she wanted to look good for your big day' haha I felt terrible and didn't say a word but soooo awkward!

I have a similar problem, like budgetbride, all of my coworkers think they are getting invited, if they all go, who will work? (We work in the retail industry) lol it's really funny actually I would with over 100 people, 5 are invited.

I had a relative text me and basically ask for her invite. We are not close. I invited her parents because I interact with them more and I realized that finances/headcount issues may not permit me to invite every distant family member. Funny thing I was not invited to her wedding. It did not bother me at all and I certainly did not reach out to haggle an invitation! ***?! lol

I don't understand how people who didn't invite you to their wedding can expect an invitation. The nerve!

Story of my life..... Everyone at my job felt they were going to be invited when they first heard I was engaged. Only a hand full are... Some people at my job even made it very awkward but I just played it off and stood my ground. I get some cold shoulders but i stay strong cause if they understand weddings and the cost they should understand and still be happy especially since i told people it was small. Weddings bring out the crazy in everyone whatevezzzz but ugh! as if my job wasnt awkward enough

I had that issue at work. I kind of made the announcement that I won't be inviting anyone from work (except 2 people I'm super close with). They all assumed and I'm pretty sure still assume they are invited and when they ask me questions about the wedding it makes me cringe because they don't get it!

HA! the same for me. At first the questions made me cringe want to run away especially when they ask if you choose a date! then one day i had a moment and was like whatever i'll answer still doesnt mean they are coming lol but maybe for me it was a little easier cause some of them i wouldnt invite even if I had the money....

It is very awkward. We wound up inviting 2 children in our family (they are 10 and 13) since I felt like they would be so hurt if I didn't even though I don't want kids. One of them has a 2 year old brother that I am not inviting and I am waiting for them to ask if they can bring him. I def don't want babies there.

Yes very awkward. This is similar to my situation I have noy made a single post or comment about my wedding on my FB page because quite frankly just because we communicate and I may like ur pictures doesn't mean you're getting invited to my wedding. If I invited everyone who would attend my wedding I would be well over 300ppl. I'm trying to keep it at 150 maximum I don't want a big wedding.

My friend who is a BM also keeps assuming that her daughter is invited to and I am trying to figure out a way to be nice and tell her we aren't having kids at the wedding. We are only have FH niece and nephew and my aunt is coming in from Texas and is bring her adopted son who is 9.

I don't know why people want to go to weddings for people they barely talk to so bad because you have to get a gift/spend money and if you are socially correct then you are easily spending $100.

I felt awkward just reading that! I haven't been in that situation yet, I honestly don't know what I would do!

When I got engaged all of the ladies that work in my classroom were making comments and still do about being invited to the wedding. I have put it out there that I am not inviting anyone from work.
