I'm in kind of an awkward situation. I asked my cousin to do a reading at the church. She doesn't think she'll be able to come to the wedding bc of her schedule.
So now I want to ask another cousin but I don't want them to feel like sloppy seconds ya know??? Should I ask them or should I just ask a friend who has no idea she is a second choice?

Hmmm, that's a tough one.Which one would cause you less drama? The cousin who knows she's a second choice or choosing a non-relative?If it's less drama for you to choose your friend, then go with it!

Re: Awkward situation
I would just ask. be honest. Say 'So and so, I wanted you both to do readings, but we only had time alloted for one and I was going to ask you to do a toast(or something else), but now ____ cannot do it and I'd like to knwo if you would mind doing it for us. Please don't feel obligated, but we'd really love it if you could.'
As long as you make it clear she is NOT sloppy seconds through your attitude, she shouldnt feel that way.

Re: Awkward situation
If your cousin is your prefered choice over your friend, ask your cousin.

Re: Awkward situation
You can still ask your cousin. If you are that close with her, then she would understand and probably be honored that you thought of her next. I once struggled over a similar situation with choosing my bp... and the funny thing was that it was a much bigger deal to me in my head than it was to the other person. I'm sure it will work out just fine. Good luck!!

Yeah, there won't be drama from my cousin, there would be drama from my aunt -a real PITA! She talks about anyone and everyone. Who needs that!

Re: Awkward situation
LOL! This woman is ruthless! This past weekend my mother was showing her pics of a dress she likes for my wedding. My aunt says 'Your not going to look like that model though'. Can you imagine saying that to somebody!!! Nobody is going to look like that model !!! She has issues.

Re: Awkward situation
That is awkward. But I think it might hurt your cousin's feelings if you ask a friend too, because she might wonder why you asked one cousin and not her. I think if you are close enough to her, she will understand why she was asked second.

If you would like your cousin to do the reading, then ask her. I'm sure she won't feel like sloppy seconds and will be excited that you ask her.
