aye aye aye... church question

aye aye aye... church question

Ok, so we're about 99% sure of where we're having our reception. (we decided on the Mansion at Timbre Pointe since all these new york city spots were still costly and we would be able to invite more and GET more with a LI wedding...)

To get things rolling, I called the church (closeby) where my sister was married and they are available that day AND will marry us even though we're not part of the parish. I'm meeting with the preist this wknd and he's going to give us advice on pre cana etc etc... since we're pressed for time.

My problem is... i was in the car when he called and forgot to mention that my FH isn't Roman Catholic. He is Protestant.

Is he going to have to get confirmed or something?

(can you SEE what a bad Catholic I am??)

Will they still marry us, just not on the alter or something?

Please excuse my ignorance.

my parents went through this when they got married. My father was protestant too and yes I believe he had to be confirmed, which involves going to something along the lines of catechism classes.

Definitely ask the priest from the church what it involves specifically

LMAO yeah i wasnt fast enough

but you can get married in the church - whoeever isnt catholic just cant receive communion so most couples just do a ceremony and not a mass bc its kind of awkward if half of your guests AND the groom can't participate

I am Lutheran and FH is Catholic - his Catholic church is marrying us np - they just requested my Baptism certificate ...

we also had the choice of a Mass but opted for ceremony only - I dont think it would be a problem! You would have to go through PreCana im sure, meet with the Priest yadda yadda ...

best of luck

they actually changed this a few years ago - before my cousin got married

some kind of alliance between the catholic church and other churches to recognize other faiths ( took them long enough) so now it is much easier!

my FH is RC, and i am nothing. We are getting married in a RC church.

We just had to get a dispensation (he agress to raise children Catholic) from the Bishop (we sign a form, church sends it to Bishop) and complete pre-cana. We can still have a mass & everything, but i, of course, can't take communion.

thank you. we do plan on raising our children Catholic. I have a son (out of wed lock OH MY!!) who is receiving communion next year. My FH isn't religious at all, but I *try* to be especially since I'm raising a child.
