after reading the post about schools & seeing whos graduating soon, i started thinking about whats going to happen when we have kids. there are a lot of very well educated girls on the 2010 board, are you going to be able to walk away from working to raise a child??

yeahhhhhhhh.... i didnt go to grad school but even if i did, having a family and raising them myself is more important to me. Also, we're having kids right away (hopinh to at least) and so i wont be that far into my career

Re: babies
We decided the other day (after a qotd) that yes i will be a stay at home mom...But once our child starts going to school (is old enough to get into an advanced academic program like i got into for children) i will start to work part time until our child is in full day school, then after that i will go back to full time

Yes. My children will come first, than work. As I raise them, I can concentrate on chasing my dream of opening my boutique. But I won't return to working until after they start school. Hopefully, finacially, we can do it that way, but my FH wants this way as well, and really wants to stick to our plan.

Re: babies
nope... i dont plan on staying home but who knows. If i end up becoming a school psychologist i'll have the same sched as them eventually.
I don't plan on having a kid though until 2 years or so after i finish my schooling and 2 years after i'm married.

Re: babies
i would only stay home until they start full day pre school. then hopefully be able to work a partial day (like 8-2) so i am home when they get home from school & can do homework & after school activities with them.

Re: babies
I work as a R.T in the hospital and currently I am working on my N.P. I love my job & my study too much to be a stay at home mom, right now. I don't plan on having kids as soon as I get marry. Probably around 29-30. Afterward, I will work part time or pier diem to stay at home with my children.

Re: babies
I dont plan on having kids...but if I did...I would be working. FH has two kids that live with us. They went to daycare. Now they are both in school...and I work from home 3 days a week so I am home when they get home from school.

Re: babies
im going to school to be a teacher...finding a teaching job where i live is really hard so once i find a job im keeping it...FH is a RN and has an amazinggg job! he works about 15 hours a week but gets paid for 40....so i dont want to leave work, but i will have a 7-3 job, weekends, holidays, and summers off..i think i will have a lot of time with my kids.

Re: babies
i dont think i make enough money that i can afford to put my kid in daycare so i would probably stay home when he/she is very young and then go back to work as he/she gets older... im hoping to get a part time job at least because i go crazy staying home

Re: babies
I'm the opposite, I don't think I could afford not to work. Even in my field I think my options are generally either work 80 hrs/wk and make lots of money, or get a gov't/public interest job and work a decent amt and not make a lot of money... but I'm still responsible for paying back lots of student loans, and that will be really hard if I'm not working at all. I'd definitely like to stay home for a few years while the kids are young and then once they're in school I'd be fine with working full time.

Re: babies
I am staying home with my kids for sure. I love teaching but my family comes first. I will go back to work when they are in school. I hope to tutor part time after fh comes home from work and stays with the kids (who is a teacher too)
