Babies at Evening Weddings

Babies at Evening Weddings

I just thought I would throw this out there.... I hope I don't sound evil, but I am having a late night wedding. I don't think it would be a good idea for my friends who have babies or small children (under age 2) to bring them there. However, I have some friends from out of town who will need babysitting or will want to bring their babies. I was wondering how other brides are dealing with this situation. Am I being unfair?

I am not having babies or young children at my wedding. I just feel as though then their parents cannot fully enjoy the reception. I don't think you are being mean or cruel in any way. I think a lot of us are against having kids at our weddings.

Maybe you could find a babysitter and have the kids be watched at a certain location. If there are a lot of kids, then get a few babysitters. This way they have an option.

No kids and definitely NO babies at my wedding. It's not fair to the parents b/c they can't really enjoy themselves due to having to watch their kids all the time but moreover, it's not fair to the kids! I've seen way too many 4 year olds sleeping on chairs as the clock strikes 9pm. It's ridiculous and I hope my guest realize this. Just in case, I'm putting 'adult reception' on the invite

Actually we have way too many kids in the family, and a lot of friends who have them, so we're allowing them. My sister, at her wedding, had a separate room just for kids, and hired babysitters. She bought tons of kid friendly games/toys for them to play with, and parents were allowed the freedom to go in and out. It allowed them to stay late too, because someone was watching their children. That's what we're going to do. We're using the cocktail room when we're through with it. I'm hiring entertainment and babysitters. I'm even thinking of using a TV/DVD player for movies, and getting toys they can play with. The place we're having it allowed us to do that, as long as we have people watching them. Might be an idea??

How are you handling babysitting for out-of-town guests? I told my fiance how I felt about 'babies at wedding' and we had a mini-argument. He is concerned that his good friends won't come because they live out-of-town. I am wondering how I could help them out.

I went through this with my daughter so I brought her for 1 1/2 hrs and had someone come get her

We arent doing any kids what so ever. But Ive heard of hiring a babysitter and putting the kids in a different room as said above.

We're not having kids. We will hire a babysitter and she will watch them at the hotel.

NOOO kids at my wedding...haha...well besided the kids in the bridal party and I may hire someone to keep them in line at the reception.....for OOT guests we are hiring off premise babysitting....the kids will be taken to the aquarium or the beach or something during our afternoon wedding.

I have been to weddings where they rented a suite and watched all the kids at the same hotel guests stayed at by hiring a babysitter...many daycare people will 'freelance' and do these kind of jobs...good luck!

Thank you so much for all of your responses. I am feeling relieved already. My wedding won't even start until 7 PM, so it will be much too late for really small children. I am glad that I am not alone!

one of my BM's is coming from OOT & has a 1y/o baby. she graciously arranged for babysitting already, b/c she has other friends and family in NY to step in and babysit. If she didn't arrange this herself I was prepared to find a sitter for her. babies don't belong at evening weddings, imho.

We chose not to have babies or young children at our wedding, everyone has been very supportive.

You are definitey not being mean about the whole situation...I already said to people that I am not having any kids, except for the BP kids. That's it. Trust me...people will understand. And your wedding is far enough away for them to arrange for a babysitter!

Re: Babies at Evening Weddings

you have just tapped into one fo the most difficult and sometimes controversial issues when it comes to weddings! some family members will try and bully, guilt, and downright cry to you that you are being wrong for not wanting kids at the wedding!

my FH didn't quite understand it at first, either. guys just don't get it! then i explained it to him, how kids will be running around, and ppl are getting drunk, and no one wants to have to deal with someone's rugrats while trying to enjoy themselves! (no offense to others who have kids at their wedding!)

i would look into hiring someone to watch them at perhaps the OOT guest hotel or at someone's house, if you feel you must accomodate them. for me personally, we've let friends & family know for nearly 2 yrs about the wedding and the fact that children are not invited, i feel like we've given them ample notice. but no matter what, they will still try and make you feel bad at the last minute!!!

We are also not having babies/kids at our wedding for obvious reasons.

We also have many OOT guests with children and they are saying they cant find a babysitter well then i say how do you know you cant find a sitter 6 months from now? If they want to be there theyll find a way

I would hope that anyone in their right mind wouldn't bring children under 2 yrs. old to an evening wedding!

no....not being unfair at all. If you have babies there it will ruin it for everyone....all your guests will have to go home early! Plus, it will smell like diapers all night.......and people will be ohhing and ahhhing and burping and spitting up and in the bathroom changing diapers instead of dancing.

Listen h0ney.....if there is one night in your life that its ALL ABOUT YOU, this is it!!!! Forget the babies. Leave them home with grandma.
