babies at your reception?

babies at your reception?

Need some opinions~

My FSIL ( who is in the BP along with her husband and son) is pregnant. The new baby will be about 5 months old at our wedding-she lives in another state and is coming in for the wedding-and she is assuming that she can bring the baby to the wedding. I am not really happy about this and feel that she could get a babysitter to watch the baby ( FBIL's family all live in the area)...am I being selfish for not wanting a baby at the wedding?

No you are not selfish. I personally do not see any place for an infant at a wedding. My young attendants are all going home after the cocktail hour and they are 2, 3, 4 and 5.

I'm in the same boat. I do not want 'kids' at my reception but one of my BM is going to have a baby who will be 5 1/2 months old for the wedding. She is flying from NC to NY for the wedding. Her sister is invited to the wedding and her mom lives out of state. I am not going to ask her to leave the baby with someone she doesn't know so if she needs to bring her, no biggie. If she finds a babysitter, fine, if not, I'm ok with that

IMO - you have to pick your battles, how much trouble will a little baby be. You probably won't even notice she's there. I feel especially if she is coming from out of state, you should allow her to bring her lil baby...JMO

You are not being a bit selfish AT ALL. A child that young needs to constantly be cared for, which means she'll most likely be with the child the ENTIRE time, neglecting her duties as part of the BP.

Also, a child that young wil 90% certainly CRY...during the ceremony!

It's also your wedding, and your choice not to have babies at your wedding, and she should respect that....most especially b/c her IL's can babysit.

Point out to her that the reception may run late and that this isn't apporate for the baby. You could also maybe provide a sitter for her. Its a nice jester. But get this done now, and not when the baby is already born.

I agree. If you are having a night affair, the baby will be miserable at the wedding anyway. The loud music, etc. will just lead to a crying baby - not fun for you, the other guests or the baby!

thank you ladies-

I feel that is is such a long day and she and her husband are both in the BP not to mention they will have their 3 year old with them all night long ( which I can deal with)..not to mention having to transport 3 kids under the age of 3 to the reception

My neice who will be 3 and is the FG will be leaving right after cocktail hour.

My friend is having a similar situation right now. It's a tough decision, but I feel a baby has no place at the wedding.

I definitely want kids at my wedding, but not babies.... They are to young to handle all that, a ton of people, a long day, the loud music... A wedding is no place for a newborn ... JMO.

you are NOT selfish for not wanting babies at the wedding!! To be honest, the people who insist on bringing them are the selfish ones....

I feel that you have to understand the situation she is in as well at the age of her child at 5months old its hard to get a babysitter and also to leave ur child when ur out of state. I understand where your coming from but once ur a mother its very hard...

You are not being selfish at all. We're having a no kids policy. We're not even having flowers girls or ring bearers.

That's why I told my BM (also my BF) that if she needs to bring the baby, it's fine with me. She is flying from NC to NY for my wedding so I am trying to accomodate her.

Well, my MOH had a 3 month old and was breastfeeding. The baby came to the church (and yes, she cried but that's what daddy's for, to walk out with the baby! ) and then went home with her grandparents - so she was not at the reception. I have to say my MOH was MISERABLE! She spent the whole night pumping milk and sulking since she couldn't drink...I could have cared less if the baby would have come (I cared about NOTHING that day) because although I think subjecting an infant to loud music is cruel, her mom was really not having a good time with the baby. Something to consider.

Your feelings are perfectly acceptable. Esp a baby that young will need constant attention, it'll be easier to get a baby-sitter. My FG (neice) will be 3.5 and my nephew almost 2 and they're attending our reception bc I WANT them to be there, even still we might get them a sitter to come to the RH in case they get cranky.

my sister is pregnant and the baby will be around 5 months at our wedding. i am not having any other children, except my 3 yr old niece/FG, his 2 yr old nephew/RB, and whatever this baby is. i am having the baby because i dont want when the newborn is 10 to ask why he/she wasnt at my wedding. my sister is my moh and best friend, we are all we have and even if the baby cries so be it. i probably will be so out of it that day, that i wont even realize it. if your fh doesnt mind, then just politely bring it up in casual conversation.

My sister (moh) had a baby in July. My niece will be 2 months at the wedding. I have no problem with her being there but it is really up to you. I understand your hesitation, however it was never an option for the baby not to be at the wedding...I was told that she was coming.
